To inaugurate spring,
kissmeimjewish and I went hiking at
Governor Dodge State Park. Governor Dodge is about 45 miles westish of Madison, in the driftless region of Wisconsin. The Driftless region is my favorite. It's where the glaciers left the land untouched. It's all bluffs and sand and rolling hills and geologic wonders. The hike we went on was about 4.5 miles, and we climbed up and down 2 bluffs. We saw some very cool rock structures, including a rock arch and some amazing rock towers. After our hike, we checked out Stephens Falls, which were nice...for Wisconsin (there aren't that many waterfalls).
After a winter of inactivity--at least since I came back from Israel in January--it was a refreshing, semi-challenging hike. I'm looking forward to taking advantage of all the wonderful parks and hiking trails that Wisconsin has to offer this summer. We bought our State Park passes (one for each car), so we're good to go. I'm also going to join the Hoofers Outing Club through the UW Memorial Union. One of the coolest things about Madison is the Union. Although it's a student union, the community uses it just as often. There's great music on the terrace in the summer, Hoofers--the outdoors clubs, and mini-courses on a wide range of topics. Anyway, I want to have access to the kayaking and hiking trips, as well as meet new people. I'm still looking for those friends here in Mad-town.
