NEO TOKYO SAMURAI BLACK
July 3rd.
House of Blues
Dallas, TX
Show setlist and a general overall experience review.
This was an eight hour mind trip; from 2:00PM to 11:00PM
This day started way earlier than all other shows I've been too. My friend and I reached the House of Blues around 2:00PM and we actually sat down and ate. Everyone was very gracious, food was good, and the Portugal vs. Spain game was on, which kept my anxiety down. Spain won. I downed the food as fast as possible so we could get out receipt and Pass the Line. Finished, and got in the line to skip the line at 3PM and just waited for five more hours. I was very pleased to see that the amount of teens and tweens was actually very minimal, and that it felt like I was going to have a good time. While in line, my friend and I played cards, drank coke, and ate cheese-its, keeping it smooth and wasting time.
As promised we were let in a little early and while my friend jetted for the stage I took to the Merch booth, and bought myself a bag. Made my way to my friend and found that he snagged us a nifty spot, second row, between center and far right stage. An hour passed, and I could tell that everyone around me was getting shifty, checking their time frequently. 10 minutes. 5 minutes. 3 minutes. 1 minute.
The air was electric and the crowd started clapping and cheering for the main act. "Mi-Ya-Vi! Mi-Ya-Vi!" How could he keep us waiting any longer? Cobe84 and Bobo walked across the stage and went to their respective posts, waving. Then Meevs strutted in and domineered our attention completely. He cajoled and feigned like he couldn't hear us. It's like he didn't know what he was doing. But he surely did.
Everyone around me pushed forward, screaming, calling out to him, welcoming him to our part of the world with everything they had. He took what we gave him in voice, and gave it right back in song and spirit.
It was absolutely transcendant. It was as if he needed to take the time to remind us how human we all are; in being absolutely vulnerable we are absolutely powerful.
This was especially proven when he sang his encores.
Everything was so high energy, it is the type of moment when situationally, it's impossible to think a coherrent thought, because if you do, you'll miss something wonderful. It's all you can do to simply let yourself go and be swept away by the current that is the magnificent Miyavi.
He sees all these people and he could not be any happier to be there than we are to have him, and his show really makes each fan feel classically respected.
There was a moment when this all became very real, even before the show started.
The layout of the HOB is very, show in the basement, so when you line up for the show, you hang out up top, on a landing of stairs.
In the hours before the show, sitting against the railing, i start noticing the faint noise of the sound and rehersal before the show.
It's pretty wicked, especially when you start to notice familiar rythyms, like "Superhero" and "Are You Ready to Rock?"
Even more so when you can hear the bro himself.
Thank you, Miyavi, see you the next circuit.
