...looking at this I just realized that my favorites ruled the odd numbers.
But anyway, OMG YAY MIKI!!!!! I am SO proud of her. She had a bad Olympics and came back to win Worlds, kind of a similar deal to Joubert but her Olympics was much much worse than his, and she won this year! LOVE! She did not do the quad, but I think at that point it was a wise decision; it would have been too risky, especially with what Mao did right before her.
And this is also a prime example of consistency pulling through... Miki had two GREAT skates, but in each program she was surpassed by an even better one, in fact, two record-breaking skates- Yu-Na in the short and Mao in the free. But, Mao had had a meh short and Yu-Na had two falls in the free, so Miki's consistent great level won. Awesome.
That's not to discount Mao and Yu-Na, though, both of whom were AMAZING in their first-place skates. Yu-Na's short, in particular, was breathtaking.
And Yukari is in the Top 5!!! I really love her but honestly did not think that would happen. Nice going!
Overall I would say this has been a very successful Worlds. Some results were what I'd hoped for and some were not, but every competition was *so* exciting, the judging seemed fair, and everyone put forth their best effort and skated well. I'm really very proud of everyone involved, favorite or no. In fact, I might just have to do a post later this weekend of Worlds moments, just because it was such a great competition. *sees 98% of journal readers defriending me at the prospect of ANOTHER Worlds post*
Even though the competition is over, though, I still have a lot of coverage headed my way. Today at 3 I get to watch coverage on Radio Canada, aka the French channel. Tomorrow evening there's the exhibition on ESPN. And then also I'm going to get a shipment later in the week, because tonight at 6 is ESPN pairs/ladies free, but I'll be on the road back to school while it's on, and then tomorrow afternoon there's more on Radio Canada but I don't get that at Smith, so I'm setting those two to tape here and my parents are going to send them to me. So it'll be a gradual withdrawal.
...also, I'm *so* glad that Worlds falls during my spring break. Even though I might be the only college student out there who LOST sleep over spring break instead of catching up on such, the schedule would have been MUCH harder to coordinate if I'd had to worry about being alert for class, etc.
Alright, so, today I'm leaving at 6 for the journey back to school and real life...before that, I'm baking cookies to take back, packing, watching skating in French, and I've also decided that I need to pull a Tanith, like, right this second, so I have to go out to the store and get supplies to accomplish that. Busy day!
*sighs* Worlds... I will miss you!!!
