Ode to the MAC 217 brush

I seem to be in a MAC posting mood this week. Yesterday, I wrote about the lone MAC Huggable lipstick that I picked up and today I'm going to be talking about a cult product from the brand that I'm sure every beauty blogger and her mother has heard of. This is the MAC 217 brush. I started seeing the brush pop up in a bunch of beauty posts last year and naturally, I got curious about it. I went to the local MAC store to look at it in person because I wanted to feel the bristles against my skin before buying it. When I first touched it, I thought it was ok (though a bit prickly) and then I saw the price. It made me think twice about getting the brush. Long story short, I didn't buy it that day. But I've thought about it a lot since.

Then in December, my hubby and I went with the in-laws to Duty Free for their regular pre-Christmas shopping. I've talked numerous times about how much I love the MAC store in Duty Free (cheaper especially when they have the Peso Power thing going, no lines, more products not available in stores outside). So naturally, my first stop at the Beauty Walk was MAC. My mom-in-law came with me and decided to get a Skinfinish powder and because she was feeling generous, she also bought me the brush! Now I love my 217 even more because it was a gift from my MIL. That's the story of how I got my MAC 217.

Anyway, on to the actual brush. As mentioned, I found it a bit hard at first use. But as I learned how to use it, that element actually helps control the amount of product that you apply and the blending bit. When I'm in a hurry, I just use this brush for both lid and crease. It's perfect for packing on color across the lids and then I swipe it a few times on a clean tissue and then dab it on another color for the crease. I then swipe it again on the tissue, turn it sideways and then use it to blend. I do this when I don't have time to change brushes but as much as possible I use different brushes for crease and blending.

This brush also holds up well even after countless washings. It holds it form and dries in the same shape. It doesn't fan out like other brushes. I am seriously thinking about getting a back up because I just love this. Maybe on my next Duty Free visit!
