Lipstick Month Post #7: Maybelline Bold Matte by Color Sensational

Jul 09, 2013 22:57

I forgot to mention yesterday that this week is going to be all about my favorite drugstore brand, Maybelline, which my former housemate (holla aoitenshi) got me into. Sure, their lip products are not the most hydrating but what they lack in that department, they make up for it in price and wide selection of products.

To demonstrate said range, yesterday's post is perfect for days when you just want an easy, natural look to your lips. Nothing too flashy or bold but soft and pretty and sweet. But if you want a lip color that's bold and out there, then the Maybelline Bold Matte by Color Sensational lipstick is for you.

I learned about this product from blogs (which is where I learn about most new product releases) a while back and thankfully, this one reached our shores. Hurrah! I think I first saw these at MOA where I also swatched all the five colors that were released here. I liked them but for some reason, I didn't buy them right away. Maybe I was practicing the sleep-on-it-before-you-buy-it rule but the following day, I went to Watsons Podium during my lunch break and bought one shade and then bought another one the following day.

Unlike Color Whisper, this doesn't have any writings on the frosted cap. You also get a small mirror on the top of the cap which might be handy when you desperately need to apply your lipstick and there are no mirrors around you.

The first color that I got was Mat 1 which was the only product name written on the packaging. I find it annoying when the name of the lipstick isn't dispalyed anywhere. I had to search online and found out that this is called Hot Pink. I wouldn't call this color Hot Pink because I have other lipsticks that really look like a hot pink color. I would call this a bright mid-toned pink shade.

The second one that I got was Mat 2 or Sugar Pink. Again, I feel that the name doesn't live up to the color. I mean, this isn't even pink. I would say that Sugar Pink is a bright coral color that leans more pink than orange.

From the tube, you can't even tell one color from the other unless you look very closely. But when swatched, you can definitely tell the difference. It is also not really matte because the product is a bit creamy to be called matte. But it is definitely bold and attention grabbing so they got the name 50% correct.

I have to properly scrub my lips whenever I use this as it has the tendency to highlight the dry parts of my lips. It settles in the lines too so make sure you have a balm underneath if you have dry lips. Overall, I love this lipstick because for the the price, it is highly pigmented. The colors also compliment my skintone and gives my face color when I'm too lazy to do my makeup. Weartime is also decent with around four hours without eating and drinking. I would say it's a good product with a bad packaging. Just make sure you swatch it first before you buy it so you don't get fooled by the name.
