99% dedication, 1% luck- Kris

You can be anyone you want.

That’s what Kevin’s heard all his life. He had only a few friends and they were all from the basketball team. They were his most loyal friends, supporting him in whatever he did.

99% dedication…
1% luck.

They broke records, sweated and pounded the hardwood with sneakered feet together.

When Kevin was promoted to captain, there was a lot of shit thrown his way and a lot of rumors circulated.

He refused to let them bring him down, instead working harder than ever before.

A year later, he took his team to state and won - the first time ever for his school.

Kevin lived, breathed and dreamed basketball- his goal was to make it into the NBA just like his hero Michael Jordan.
He never gave a thought about the entertainment world. Who cared about boys wearing makeup and flashy clothes dancing onstage?

MTV was where it was at.

“You can do anything you set your mind to,” his mom reminded him, when he found out she had signed him up for the global SM entertainment audition to be held the next weekend.

“But mom, I don’t want to dance! I want to play basketball! Only gay boys dance!”

His mom squinted at him, then very quietly said, “Kevin Li. Not only gay boys dance. Straight boys dance. Gay girls dance. Straight girls dance. Doesn’t need a label to dance good, only dedication.”

By Monday morning, all his friends found out about his audition. To his shock, the friends that had been so supportive before turned on him, and for the first time ever, Kevin found himself on the receiving end of bullying.

For the first time in his 16 years, he was all alone.

By the end of the week, he was desperate and in need of some inspiration. He googled “inspirational quotes”.

be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind  --Dr. Seuss

In fall of 2007, he joined SM entertainment.

“Nice to meet you. What was your name again?”

“Kev…Kris. Kris Wu.”

“Nice to meet you, Kris Wu. Welcome to SM.”

you can be a master, don't wait for luck- Suho

“What do you want to be, when you grow up?”

“A teacher, just like daddy!”

Six year old Kim Joonmyun spoke naively, not knowing what lay ahead.

Because what lay ahead was a long, torturous, path-laid down with thorns, stomped down and covered with the sweat and blood of those who came before him.

Joonmyun was in elementary school when he first heard about g.o.d.

Watching the talented dancers on the small television, Joonmyun watched with awe as screaming girls cried and threw flowers, chanting the names of the members reverently.

Twelve old Joonmyun has trained for this day.

The day of audition.

He’s not ready.

Joonmyun doesn’t know how he did it. But he’s in.

The famous SM entertainment.

Sixteen year old Joonmyun feels old. He can hear the whispers in the halls, about how he’s already trained for four years but hasn’t debuted yet, about how he’ll get thrown out in the next year or so.

He wants desperately to give up, to just quit. But he also knows that's not an option, so there was nothing he could do except do his best.

So he gives it his all, pushing himself to do more, more, more, more.

Nineteen year old Joonmyun stands in shock in front of the CEO.

Him, a leader?

At the moment, the fact that he’s going to debut flies over his head. All he can register is that he’s going to be a leader and oh my god, he can barely drag himself out of bed, how is he going to manage five other guys?

Twenty year old Joonmyun stands in the dorm room in shock. The lights had all been out when he got home from a meeting, and he assumed the others were all asleep. Instead, he walks in the door to find five smiling guys and a cake. (was that strawberry?)

“Happy birthday, Joonmyun hyung!” Five voices chorus, and Joonmyun chokes back tears.

Twenty-one year old Joonmyun stands on stage with his eleven brothers. As he stares out at the glowing sea of light sticks, he thinks his life is complete.
