Civil War Buffs Everywhere Mourn

Jun 28, 2005 16:11

Haven't updated in a while...been busy with work and the like.

Shelby Foote died today. For those who don't know who he is, he pretty much ignited an interest in the Civil War in the second half of last century. He had a folksy way of telling how things happened. I distinctly remember many family vacations driving to Civil War battlefields listening to his parts of his books (he wrote a three book (gigantic books) volume narrative on the Civil War) and his deep Mississippi accent. While my dad waxed poetically about the battle he was talking about.

The Civil War world has lost one of its finest.
