Report 26: Weak to Weather [Voice]

Jun 18, 2009 19:23

[A sneeze.]

Ugh...

Not again. I swear, if my immune system doesn't adapt to this climate soon, I'll die. This is such an annoyance.

[She sniffles and clears her throat.]

I miss Ciel. He was such a nice boy and made very good soup. I guess I should go lie down for a while.

Seems we're in the same boat again.

You would think this would get easier. Well, we are desert creatures. If it gets too bad, I have something that can remove moisture from your house naturally, given a little time to grow.

You'd think.

Really?

Yes. It seals moisture away, forming a living cistern around it. Quite the handy thing to have. And perhaps my aunt can cook you something...

I think that would help.

I'll be over as soon as the rain is done.

[Over the river mountains and through the woods, to Meryl's house we go. Leto's still wearing his monkish robe to keep any stray drops off him. As he approaches, he thinks he sees Guy leaving but by the time he gets there, he's gone. Oh well. He knocks, and when the door opens, he's holding up a little sack with something moving around inside it. He grins boyishly, like a fremen child who's found a sweet paradan melon.]

[Meryl answers the door, feeling better after having the soup, and gives the bag a curious look.]

These are sandtrout. They seal away water with their bodies. And these...[He holds up another pouch in his other hand.]...are Alia's spice cakes. [He can hardly believe he's saying that about his formerly terrible aunt, St. Alia of the Knife, Imperial Regent, Huntress of a Thousand Worlds, the Womb of Heaven....baker.]

Oh, er, I see... I've never heard of trout that could do that. [She glances to the other pouch.] You'll have to thank her for me.

She's been baking almost nonstop since the opposite curse. [He wonders briefly if he should come in or not. He's used to being able to barge in pretty much wherever he wants...] It's strange to think of the vicious regent Saint Alia of the Knife happily baking...

[No need to fret. She steps aside for him.]

I was doing things like that.

Ah, but you don't strike me as the type to rule a galaxy with terror and religious fanaticism. [He walks to the table and sets both sacks down there.] If you put a few drops of water on the table, i'll show you...[He pauses, surpresses a sneeze before it starts] how they work.

No... no, not quite. [She coughs lightly and shakes her head. Leto came from an interesting world.]

Have some tea. There's still some left. I'll get some water.
