Hm... the apartment's been awfully... quiet since the New Year rolled in.

I always worry when he's like this. I've seen him at his worst, I know, but I don't want him to hurt like this. He takes everything on himself.

Even knowing everything, I still don't understand why such bad things follow a good person like him.

Vash-san has a kind soul. Very admirable, but I'm afraid that there was nothing he could have done. I consider him my friend, but I know even I would have prevented him from doing so.

Does he stay like this for long?

I never did ask him what happened... could you tell me?

He's been a little off for a while, but it's only been like this the past few days.

Certainly! I am sure you have heard of Kefka, yes? Before this, he posed a threat to my nakama, but he didn't fully make himself one until the other day in the plaza, when he attempted to turn the village against Sanji-san.

That backfired, however - besides my crew who came to he and Nami-san's aid, several of Kefka's enemies showed up as well. It is my understanding that they had every right to fight him, in particular that woman he had murdered. Vash-san tried to prevent everyone from fighting, of course, but that would have been unavoidable with such a situation. Kefka was killed, but no one else was hurt terribly.

[ She understands, now. ]

... That kind of situation, it hits him hard.

I suspected as much, when I ran into him after the incident. Is there anything I can do to help?

Not right now. He'll need a little time... I'll try to talk to him when he gets home. But, afterward... some encouraging words from a friend might be good for him, when he's calmer.

I will be more than happy to provide those words, when he will accept them!

Thank you, Brook. I appreciate it and I'm sure he will, too.

No thanks are needed though I would not object to a glimpse of your panties if you felt so inclined, Meryl-san. But thank you for discussing this with me!
