injection day

immunization day for david today and as he was overdue i allowed the nurse to do both the ones he was due at once. received heavy criticism for this from people who's advice is fast becoming inconsequencial to me.
spent the day making sure he knew what was going to happen. light airy voice " are you going to get you're injections today" miming the procedure on him so he knew what was to come. i wanted no surprises.
in the doctors he asked again what injections were so i described it to him in more detail "the nurse puts some medicine in a tube and puts a needle on the end then she puts the needle a little bit in your arm or leg and squirts the medicine in. see, no big deal" by the way, i received heavy criticism for using a positive voice while telling him what was going to happen too. apparantly i'm going to give him trust issues lol. says the woman who is still trying to convince her 9 yr old that santa exists. but i guess everyone has different definitions of honesty with their children.
we went in and he was a bit quiet and clingy but he did really well, he had them in his arms, first jab, not a peep. second one, a small wail and a couple of sobs but that was it. i was calm and encouraging. "it's ok hunny, it's all right. see all done now" and he stopped in about 5 seconds. nurse was very pleased with him and gave him lots of rewards.
i was very pleased with myself, i hate needles and could easily have made this a big deal to him with my voice and body language. i could have not mentioned it to him all day and left it as a surprise so as not to deal with any questions.

no more jabs for a year, yay
