The Commish: Motherfucker looks just like the Commish....

I was at the doctor's office with my mother, early afternoon. My appointment was finished and I was not happy that we had to head off to another one. When we left the office there was a large alley across the street where a crowd of people was examining a car that was on sale or auction--huge, black convertible. It was a Ford Fairlane, but I heard someone call it a Cadillac. Quite nice looking, save for the shitty tires. The whole scene reminded me of being at the Pequot Library book sale.

Afterwards, on the highway en route to the second appointment, my mother suddenly gasped and craned her head completely around. I raised myself up from the back of the van and looked behind us; a huge nuclear cloud was rising from what I knew was (had been) Manhattan. Immediately the thought that we would inevitably die from the fallout came to me, but the bombing itself seemed like an inevitable and unsurprising event. Somehow we hadn't yet driven off the road. I crawled up into the driver's seat and started driving, saying something like "Right now the thing to think about is not crashing this van." The highway itself wasn't very crowded, and looking ahead there didn't seem to be any accidents occurring. I wasn't sure if those in front of us were still unaware of what had happened, or simply acting on instinct and trying to get as far away as possible.

Later I woke up with "Children of the Grave" stuck in my head.
