I find that I sincerely enjoy icon making. It feeds the part of me that needs to be creative. I have a few other outlets for this need and so I've let the icons fall to the wayside. Last week for
bstg_icontest, I made 6 icons for the 3 challenges that they had running. I did not win anything, which is disappointing, but it did make me feel better to just participate.
Back in December, I made 4 icons for someone as a present at
beyond_insane. I'm really happy with the way that 2 of them came out. I'm getting better at seeing something in my head and then manipulating the picture to present that.
I'm no where near where I could be in this realm, but I like that I can keep working on it to get better. Find a new tutorial, play with a new style. It's a source for endless creativity.

Some commentary on the contest submissions: My most favorite of the batch is #2. And it's the only one that didn't get a single vote. Even my least favorite, #6, got at least one. I won't tailor my icons to win anything though. I'll make them the way that I think reflects me and be happy with the result.
