Hello the Peoples of Reed. I am suffering through my first cold day here in Berlin. I am reminded very strongly of Portland. I have been enjoying the cultural atmosphere here greatly. Last night I went to a Jazz club and it was awesome. The music was not really my thing seeing as it was contemporary Jazz which, when it was played by good people (as these were) must be appriciated but not nessecarily enjoyed. What I really liked were the people and the fact that I was permitted to be there at all. I mean my experiences with these things in Oregon are so negative that just the fact that I got into the club (and strangly enough had a student discount) was awesome enough. I began the corruption of my 19 year old friend from Canada, Chris, by getting him drunk and then persuading him that he needed to persue this older Polish girl he has had a minor flirtation with. I love being the elder statesman.

In other news I am learning quite of bit of German really quickly. I now understand what the various panhandlers and street people are asking me. I also know enough German that I was able to pick up on the signals of a drug sale. Yes, I was walking on the street in a random part of Berlin and was offered Weed not once but twice. Not to mention Absinthe is legal here so much experimentation will take place and reports will be delivered to interested persons.

Anyway things are going well. I am still getting used to the fact that people are coming and going here so quickly. I have already lost a few friends to their need to return to work and I will likely lose a few more at the end of the week. Luckily I think most of the people I know better are going to be here for the long haul.

Proust!
