Happy Valentine's Day, folks!
Anyhoo, as a V-Day gift and as a way to hopefully give myself something to do, I've stolen this writing meme thing from
slartibartfast and...well, the first five comments for sure, but I may keep going.
Pick two fandoms and a word limit of anything under a thousand words. I'll write a ficlet of exactly that length with whatever

Colby isn't really sure what to expect when he starts at Atlantis Pi High School. He has a vague sort of worry that it'll be the sort of stereotypical close-knit small town community wherein he has to pass some sort of test before being accepted, but he knows that's just nerves with no real basis in reality.
The principal, Elizabeth Weir, had been nothing but kind during the interview and had smiled warmly at him when he was offered the position, and had shown him around the school after.
She'd also introduced him to David the Politics teacher and John the History teacher, and in barely any time at all, Colby has plans to have beer with them at the end of the week.
His classes go well and it's clear that the teacher before him taught them well, but also that his predecessor had let them do as they pleased a lot too.
There is a slight moment of worry, however, during lunch when Alan, the English teacher, blocks him as he heads for the coffee maker and says, "You can get coffee from the third door to the left down the hall."
"Uhm," Colby says, eyes flickering between the coffee maker and Alan's smiling face. "Okay?"
Alan claps him on the back with a wink as he turns around to go, and he's still wondering what the hell that was about as he pushes the third door to the left down the hall open, and steps into what appears to be another teachers room, only this room grows noticeably more quiet as he steps inside. It's kind of obvious he was the topic of conversation.
Colby recognizes nearly everyone in the room though, because there's David, John and the lady who'd pushed past him in the parking lot that morning to hover an appreciative hand over Colby's car. The only one Colby doesn't recognize is currently scowling at the woman, but turns to introduce himself to Colby as Evan Lorne, the Art teacher, who Colby can't help but notice is kind of ridiculously hot.
Getting involved at work wasn't a good idea in the Army, and it's not a good idea now -- although not quite as career damaging.
Forcefully pushing his thoughts away from such matters, he focuses on the bickering going on between John and the car lady, Cadman; and is a little surprised by how easily they shift to accommodate him in the conversation.

The beer with John and David expands to include the rest of the teachers too.
To begin with, they all end up around one table talking, but as the night progresses the group splits into smaller fractions, and Colby spends a while talking to David and Don, the Technology and Research Studies teacher. Then he gets up to get himself another drink and is waylaid on the way back by Cadman, and spends the rest of the night talking to her and Evan.
It turns out they're both ex-Air Force, but Evan's a local to Atlantis while Cadman's from Michigan. Colby's about to write them off as an obvious couple, when Cadman says, "Evan here made the mistake of introducing me to his old high school sweetheart and my current girlfriend, and hasn't been able to get rid of me since."
"I'd been unable to get rid of you long before that," Evan points out.
"It's true," Cadman agrees, then leans closer to Colby and whispers, "I can't abandon his side until I can find a guy who can take care of him in the style I have let him grown accustomed."

Colby laughs it off, because he can already tell that Cadman likes stirring up drama too much to be completely trusted.
Still when he glances over at her while discussing the original Star Trek vs. the Next Generation with Evan, the tilt of her head might seem innocent if it wasn't also accompanied by a smirk and a waggle of her eyebrows.

A month later, Colby officially admits defeat in his internal denial of his attraction to Evan. The Friday night drinks seems to be kind of a ritual, and although he does make an effort to talk and socialize with the other teachers as well, he somehow always ends up back in whatever table Evan's sitting at, or Evan ends up at Colby's table.
In addition, Colby keeps intersecting with Evan on his morning jogs to the point where they part with a 'see you later' and 'same time tomorrow?'
So it's kind of a relief when Cadman just sits down on his desk one day during one of his free periods and says, "Just in case you really are oblivious, let me just clear everything up for you: Evan likes you and he'd kill me if he knew I was here, but this is very much the high school cliché of 'do you like my friend, because my friend likes you?' And please know that if I find out you have been deliberately leading him, and me, on, I will not hesitate to punch you."
Colby just stares at her for a moment, speechless, and then she actually starts to crack her knuckles, and he doesn't doubt the threat at all so he goes, "I'm not leading him on."
Cadman beams. "Good," she says, "Then if your wrestling team wins their upcoming match, I fully expect you to take Evan out to celebrate. He likes Thai."
Colby can't really help it, he laughs, and can feel a dorky smile spread across his face as he says, "Yeah, okay."
