Brideshead Revisited (Release: 12 September 2008 UK)
I'm really curious to see this movie. I love the book and I love the first part of the 1981 TV series with Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews. I was really excited when David Yates was set to direct the movie, since with him there'd be Paul Bettany as Charles, which would have been awesome.
Sadly, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix stole David Yates away from it, but I am still very certain it's going to be excellent under the direction of Julian Jarrold. Matthew Goode? A very good replacement for Paul Bettany, and I think, more fitting for the role of Charles.
I was and still am uncertain of their choices for Sebastian though. For some reason I think that Sebastian isn't really made to be on screen, and found myself a bit unhappy with Anthony Andrews in the TV series as well. In the movies, Jude Law was cast first and later replaced by Ben Whishaw under the change of directors, so only time will tell.
Still. This is the number one movie I'll definitely be watching.
Brideshead Revisited is about the memoirs of Captain Charles Ryder who is stationed at Brideshead Castle during WWII. While there, he starts to remember the days spent with the owners of the estate, the aristocratic Catholic Flyte family, particuarly the brother and sister, Sebastian and Julia.

Cirque du Freak (Release: Unknown 2008 USA)
Okay, so technically I have no idea if this is coming out in 2008 or not. According to IMDb, the release date is set as 2008 but filming won't start until Feburary. Still.
I love the Darren Shan series, and since I found out about the movie, I've been excited. The character I am most curious (and excited!) to see is Mr. Crepsley (
John C. Reilly), but when I take a look at the cast list, I'm convinced that it's going to be excellent.
Chris J. Kelly and Josh Hutcherson are cast as Darren and Steve, and I think they'll do great in the roles. Not to mention, Salma Hayek (who I always drool over in Bandidas, unless Penelope is on screen) is also cast to appear.
Cirque du Freak is a film based on the first three books in the Saga of Darren Shan, a young boy who runs into a Vampire at a freak show. A series of events forces Darren to leave his life and go on the road with the Cirque du Freak, to become a Vampire.

Dead Like Me (Release direct-to-DVD: Unknown 2008 USA)
This is a direct-to-DVD movie that's being developed by MGM, following where the TV series left off. Mandy Patinkin won't be in this, instead we'll be saying hello to Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond from LOST, anyone?) as the new team leader. Sarah Wynter is taking over after Laura Harris (which is a shame, I loved her) in the role of Daisy, but other than that we'll be having the same old cast it seems.
I only recently watched the Dead Like Me TV series, but I loved it and it ended way too suddenly for my tastes (almost a bit like Black Books, that). I really look forward to this (yay internet order!) and it has been rumoured that if the movie is a success, then we can be looking forward to a continuation of the show :)
I hope that this will be a success and that the characters won't have changed too dramatically. I especially hope that Mason (and thank God, he's still Callum Blue) will stay the same, as he was my favourite during the show.
And I just want to say, wow, has Britt McKillip (Reggie) grown!

Chaos ensues and brings out the worst in Daisy and Mason who begin drinking anew. George and Reggie re-connect for the first time when George reaps a new friend of Reggie's.

Stargate: Continuum (Release direct-to-DVD: July 2008 internationally)
So this is one more reason I need to get my hands on the rest of the SG-1 series, so that I can watch this (and Ark of Truth) and properly have a connection with the characters. I realize it's a sequel to Ark of Truth, but I really do look forward to this more.
Mostly because of Richard Dean Anderson, because while I'm sure that SG-1 is wonderful without him (or not), I kind of want the Daniel/Jack interaction and that's what I'm hoping I'll be getting some from this movie. Just a tiny bit and I'll be satisfied. Plus there's something about RDA that makes me enjoy/pay attention to something.
Feel free to disagree with me on this, but I really am looking forward to it.
Plus, they're promising the return of a lot of guest stars, so I'm hoping for characters I like to come back. (I was especially hoping for J.R. Bourne, but how they'd fit him in, I have no clue)
Ba'al travels back in time and prevents the Stargate program from being started. SG-1 must somehow restore history before the world is enslaved by Goa'uld.
Of course, there are other treats the movie/television industry has to offer me this year, but these? These are right now the four I look forward and have for some time. I'll be keeping a special eye on movies starring
Jaime Ray Newman. For no real reason other than the fact that, a) she kicked ass as Cadman, and b) she's gorgeous.
