Loved By America's Youth

As many of you already know, last semester I was a teacher and would go into a middle school 3 times a week. I worked in a team with 2 other students to create lesson plans promoting positive social behaviors. One of the girls that was in my group now takes the class that I TA.

A few weeks ago she told me that students still ask about me and that one in particular misses me acutely. I thought that was really sweet, but brushed it off. She told me that she was going to tell the one student that she is still in contact with me and that messages could be sent through her. She was worried, however, that if she gave that information out to one student, all of the students would find out and start to pester me.

But the little girl kept her mouth shut and now Ami has decided to let the seventh grader contact me without fear of total chaos. Today I wrote her a note and even folded it up the way I used to in middle school. I dotted my Is with circles and made smilies everywhere. It is really touching that this girl looked up to me so much that she isn't willing to let me go. In fact, she is sending "something special" with Ami sometime next week. That really makes me feel good.

It is important to touch lives. But touching the life of a middle student is incredible to me...
