Charles sat, glass of cognac in hand, looking out over the snow covered grounds and felt bone aching loneliness. The world knew about mutants now, thanks to Erik's Brotherhood, and the hatred and fear had started.
"I wish I could change this," he said as the frustration finally welled up inside him.
[How?] a voice asked and in his mind he caught a glimpse of power almost beyond imagining.
He turned to find the image of himself standing just behind his wheelchair.
[Your mind has reached beyond your reality, Charles Xavier, if your wish is worthy it may be granted.]
A thousand ideas flashed through his head because he felt the truth in the words, but he did not know what to say.
[Who are you?]
[You could not comprehend it,] was the gentle reply, [just know that your pain has touched me.]
A way to change the world was there in front of him, a way to make things better, but there were so many things he could ask for.
[A second chance,] he eventually decided.
[But to do what?]
[To love him,] the truth outweighed all his lofty ideals.
[That,] his strange companion said, [is a worthy wish.]
