We Need More of This. Seriously.

This is one of the coolest ideas I've heard of in ages. Let's hear it for those who are willing to make a gesture of kindness to perfect strangers. You want to know what makes the cement for a functional society? This is it. Right here.

Isn't it thought? I love this. It's a great reminder that everyone, EVERYONE can do *something* to make this world a better place. No act is so small as to not be noticed. Maybe it won't get on TV, but it *will* get noticed.

Yeah. We do.

It's a sad world where a man can get banned from just wanting to give people a hug and improve their day.

I still have a coupon to get a half dozen free carnations/roses for when I buy a half dozen. I'm going to talk to my mum tonight. See if she'll take me to that flower store on Friday after I work to get that filled out. Then go uptown and offer them to people. :3

My friends and I had a coupon for free ice cream sandwiches once if we bought a particular kind of ice cream cake. We ate four sandwiches ourselves and gave the other eight to people we ran into.

Later on, the first person we gave a sandwich to, a little boy and his mother, happened to drive by us in a different place and the little boy yelled out the window "Thank you for the sandwich!"

... That's it. I gotta make a post in my journal about this kind of stuff.

Happy to oblige! I'll have to check your LJ to see when you're next playing the Oxford. And you deserve that praise, man, no matter what you think. I was there: I heard you play. Your solos stood up to anyone else's there.

Playing again tomorrow night. Still every Thursday. I've been tempted to do the Open mike Wednesday sometime for the Celtic Bayou.

Also you should meet my roommate Dan sometime (and maybe some of his extended artist friends) :)

Hey, I wouldn't miss a chance to hit the CB, and to see CD no less!

Let's set a date, man. I'd enjoy meeting this Dan character.

Hmmm...It's a good idea in theory, BUT, it's kinda creepy. I'm a little too suspicious of overly kind strangers, especially of the touchy variety. Pickpockets. Gropers. Cooties. You never know.

I'm a little skeptical, too, don't really think the story is a true one. Maybe I'm looking at it too critically, but the videography, the editing, even the hugees (not to be confused with Huggies) look a little too nicely put together. All the hugees make the same approach: glance, pass, turn, smile, hug. Too well rehearsed.

And why the police interference? I don't get that. And what's the purpose of the petition?

Sorry for being a doubting thomas, or a skeptical ethel or a critical kim. I'm in a pissy mood (work stuff). I need a hug.

A little skepticism is healthy. I've found bits of the back story and it's legit... but the video was probably shot later. The group Sick Puppies apparently are friends with "Juan Mann" and this was something that was happening in Sydney, Australia.

Here's one bit of the story from 2004:

oh, and *digital hug*

Thanks for pointing this out. Makes me feel a little less skeptical and sure, that certainly justifies the stagieness of the presentation. Even so, I'm still wondering about the police interference and, more so, what led to the petition.

And hey, thanks for the hug!

Hey Bean!

A little scepticism's healthy, nine out of ten doctors agree. Screw the tenth dude, anyway. He's always a dork.
