Clip and I would like to achieve financial freedom within X years. That can't happen in SoCal, housing is too expensive. Lowering expenses in the short term will be key.
We picked Pacific Northwest area because we like it, and the housing is relatively inexpensive (at least Portland is).
I plan a career change eventually. Hopefully not right away, but we'll see what happens. I'm really quite adaptable and can do just about anything.
That's good thinkin'. From what I've been reading, a nationwide housing market crash sounds like it's in the offing. Hell, with the way Shrubco's been running things, we might even see a depression in our lifetime. The sooner you manage some semblance of financial independence, the better.
I shall cheer thee from the sidelines, wherever your career choices take you.
I am *so* gonna try to buy a house in the hills of LA if the housing market tanks. x-D The thing is, it'll probably cool down fast than crash. You can't exactly sell houses like stock. :)
Anything can tank. Even cities. If the military's the main support for a city and closes a base, for example, you'll see enormous economic and demographic upheaval. It's all about how hard the economic circumstances are.
Though I agree, houses aren't precisely "tradable goods".
Should our deficit continue to grow the Chinese, Japanese and Indians will likely reduce their dependency on US currency still further. Russia's already weighed in on the idea of switching oil stocks from the dollar to the Euro. Our present leaders have done an amazing job in alienating us from the entire world, at a time when we need them most. Still there are people who think we're invlunerable, a juggernaut that can't be stopped.
If the rest of the planet decides to stop subsidizing our spending habits and demote our currency with the chief strategic commodity of the world's economy, we're liable to see all sorts of things crash. :P
A friend of mine lives in the Sherman Oaks area, and it's close to all sorts of fun things-to-do, while being in a nice quiet place. I doubt housing prices in that area would take any sort of major hit though, since the houses up there were already in the 650,000+ range before the housing market exploded about six or seven years ago.
Glendora is a nice place, at least the part I've driven through!

Illustrator, not artist? Bull. Art is art. I've never curried to that particular distinction.

So is that's what's prompting the move Up Here? Do you have a potential landing pad up thisaways, or do you plan on a career change?
Given the way you're being handled at your current job, I don't blame you for wanting to jump. :P
