So, yeah, I went to see The Apple Tree today. It was pretty much completely awesome.
The best part of it, I thought was Marc Kudisch who pretty much rocks at life. Don't get me wrong, Kristin is great and all, and her voice is really amazing, and maybe it was an off performance of whatever, but I kind of felt like her stage presence gets really over-hyped. I cheered obnixiously for Marc at the end...and only Marc :) (Don't worry, I clapped plenty for everyone else, too, just didn't scream loudly like a fool...) He was so incredibly adorable in the production. I definitely SQUEEEEE-ed more than once during the course of the show just because of Marc. Brian did a good job, also, although his voice has never really been my favorite ever. Marc's is prettier. And Marc is prettier in general. Overall, I wasn't really impressed by Brian's performance all that much, actually. It was pretty good, but not like, jaw-droppingly awesome. And his comedic timing is pretty good. As is Kristin's. So, all in all, them playing various couples, such as Adam and Eve, worked out pretty well. Not to mention that all of the three mini-musicals (Diaries of Adam and Eve, The Lady or the Tiger?, Passionella) were all well-written and staged. The cast pulled it off well. But Marc was definitely the best part of the show.
OH! and and and they had one of those post-show conversation with cast member thingies and so I stayed. It was just the three understudies and Marc, but that was totally enough to make it worth my while, because Marc is awesome, like I said before. I love listening to his voice. Anyway, he went on this huge spiel about how theatre is about communication, and what makes theatre great is how well the cast communicates to the audience and vice versa, and he totally bashed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as being to glitzy and pointless, which was funny because he was actually in it, but it made me very happy. And also he was talking about how he hates microphones, so he turned the microphone off and just projected. It was really awesome. I wanted very much to hug him. OH MY GOD I can't get over how cutely awesome he was in the show. It's driving my mom up a wall. But, messieurs et madames, STEPH HAS A NEW OBSESSION! Well, actually it isn't really new so much as...intensified.
I almost feel guilty that I thought he was the best part of the show, because Kristin is, you know, the Kristin Chenoweth, reason why most people are going to see the show (well, except me...I went because I loved them all...), and her voice does still astound me...**shrugs**
