...'cause I think the System just screwed me.
Background: I don't have a credit card. I've got a bank account and a debit card, but I've never needed a credit card, so I don't have one. So I've been thinking I probably ought to have one, just so I can pretend to have a credit score and such. So I applied to my bank for one.
Well, they got back to me today: they won't approve me. Because I don't have a credit history. Summary: I can't get a credit card, because I've never had a credit card. Suddenly I'm reminded of all those school districts who wouldn't hire me due to lack of experience. And now I'm mad.
I mean, this is my bank. I've had an account with them for years. I have $XX,000 in my checking account, and I've never been overdrawn. By all estimations, I would be an awfully good risk for them to take.
But no. In order to establish credit, you need to have...credit. Not money, mind you. Just credit.
I can't express how very short-sighted and frustrating this is.
On the other hand, though, I have thought of a title for a great blues song: "Can't Claim to be a Virgin, 'Cause the System Keeps Screwing Me".
*sigh*
