Something to brighten your day

SOOOOOOOOO every Thursday, I make absolute certain to pick up the latest issue of the Shoreham / Wading River / Rocky Point / Ridge area newspaper, The Community Journal. Not the greatest of the area newspapers -- not by far -- but it DOES have my favorite police blotter of all time. Whoever transcribes the reports sent to them from the local precincts is obviously well past the "tired of this job" and even "alright, let's have some fun with this" stages and now into the territory of "I'm gonna make me a cult following!"

And that cult following... starts here:

  • Rocky Point, Police Information, Car #702: A resident reported that her landlord had called and spoke ill of her on the phone. She also received a letter with the same feelings. She just wanted the matter documented.
  • Sound Beach, Harassment, Car #701: A resident reported that her former boyfriend refused to leave her residence. He left when the officer suggested he do so.
  • An Aided Case was reported from Wildwood State Park on Hulse Landing Road, Wading River. Police Officer Mudzinski reported that an unknown person was found lying on the ground in the park. Same was gone upon police arrival.
  • A Suspicious Person was reported from King Kullen on Route 25A, Wading River. Police Officer Schule reported that the female complainant stated that an unknown male subject was sitting in her vehicle. He was gone prior to police arrival.
  • A Suspicioius Person was reported from Sebastian Drive, Baiting Hollow. Police Officer S. Wicklund reported that the complainant's two small children were approached by an unknown female who pulled into their driveway in a red vehicle and told them to stop chasing bunnies. No further description of the subject or the vehicle was available. A search of the area was made but the subject was not located.

Of course, there are more serious reports -- i.e. people falling, having to be taken to the hospital; gunshot wounds (that's a rarity, actually); etc. -- but, for the most part, there are little gems like these. In past issues of the Journal, I've found blurbs about UPS workers allegedly urinating on packages; raccoons being found deceased and later "buried with full honors" by the town; a man throwing a plunger over his neighbors' fence during an argument, being calmed down by the police, shaking hands and asking for the plunger back; SOMEONE (no suspects yet) repeatedly leaving empty milk cartons on a resident's porch overnight; children wandering around naked (actually, that should be filed under "serious reports," come to think of it...) and the like.

There was a REALLY good one last week, which I'll paraphrase: a resident reported seeing a woman taking an infant out of the trunk of a car. (!!!) When questioned, the woman explained that she had been changing the child's diaper and wanted to keep him out of the sun.

    Still, amazing.

    Expect more Friday morning.
