Rammstein is not Celine Dion

First of all, Rammstein is the worst band  I know in terms of lyric content, so no offense to anyone who knows how gross they can be because they understand German. They are the total opposite of what I like in day-to-day life.

Two days after the show, I'm still slowly going down to earth. The show by itself was way too short but the rest was ( Read more... )

I LOVE your subject line. I barely notice Rammstein when I'm at home (they're in the radio though and sometimes in the news), but it's odd to see how famous they are abroad. In Russia people liked us because we're German and so from Rammstein-Land.

Many people associate them with good Metal music, but I like some other stuff more (if I listen to that kind at all). It's too, dunno, martial or final (?) for me. What I, however, count as big plus is that they found their very own way to make music and create a very own show. I like that on artists and they certainly are famous for a good reason (it's just not my way of music). I'm pretty sure a show of them is a great event to visit, together with own family anyway. Enjoyed to read your concert review!

I don't listen to them much either, sometimes it pops in my random listening of my Ipod and I'm pleased. It is their videos that really hooked me to them, but that was years ago. It's the only heavy music I like and I think it's because I love the sound of German language and most of all, before I started to translate their lyrics, I knew enough about them to not take them at the first degree.
I don't like much their last CD but on stage it was just great.
It was such a hot evening the firefighters on duty use their huge water hoses to wet the crushed crowd at the front before the show started. Many people were fainting.
And talking to you; they started with the huge, I mean huge, Gernan flag on the background, it was impressive. gee, I could go on and on :)

I think 'impressive' must be the right word for their shows. They put sooo much effort into it, the same time it's very real and with reason, not for having some loud and colourful event only. That's very cool.

I'm listening a lot to German music actually (that's not as common here as it could be, most people mostly listen to English stuff), but more the mellow music.

I heard someone on the radio talking about the cultural hegemony of America, and he said that our fear that it would kill local cultures didn't happen, however it did erase space for anything else but English as the first or second place. Nothing left to explore other cultures so Rammstein found a recipe that works, though the fact they became famous before internet became what it is now must have helped ( ... )
