So, I was reading over the last entry to remember where I left off, and noticed that I said the standard eight class thanked me for the car. Well, it may surprise some of you to find out that was a typo, I bought them a card, not a car, however I found that very funny though.
Weekend was relatively uneventful. Chelsea isn’t feeling well, and I feel really bad for her, but she’s slowly recovering. I did some write up of my large report here, it’s going…. Ok…. I guess…. . Literally translated that means I have no sweet clue what I’m doing and am really just BSing my way through the whole thing, and trying to give them exactly what they want. It seems to be working thusfar.
This weekend I also decided it was probably time to decide on what courses to take in the winter, seeing how I didn’t take German or biochemistry this semester (because I’m in Africa… god enough excuse in my books) I needed to find two more courses that fit my schedule. So, for all of those who are interested, this is my next semester (I know no one cares, but I do.) Virology and Human Pathology are my biology courses, I’m also in the philosophy of biology, I expect to find this very hard. Physical chemistry is towards my minor. Now like the lazy ass I am I was looking for an easy class, and everything I found that interested me conflicted with my labs, so I took the lazy mans way out and took an online course. Myths of Hate and Evil, you do it on the web in your own time. So yeah, I’m officially that lazy.
Sunday we went to a girls school. Chelsea’s Grandmother died a little while ago, and in her memory she is sponsoring a needy girl to go to secondary school, so we went to tell her. We also brought pens for the girls, to write their exams. I’ve never seen people so excited about bic pens, it was really heart warming. We then took Jennifer out to supper and then I went to bed fairly early, like the true loser I am.
Monday we moved from Meru to Mukerwe-ini (I totally think I spelled that right on my first try… pretty slick… I can also say it now). Anyway, the ride was relatively short, and enjoyable. My tailbone is giving me a lot of trouble, but I’ve also done a lot of traveling lately. Hopefully the abscess doesn’t make an appearance until after I’m out of Africa. If I thought the idea of surgery in PEI was scary, surgery in Kenya leaves me completely shit baked.
Anyway, when we got to the house Mahinda, our cook, was there to greet us. He came over to prepare the house for our arrival, and is staying the rest of the week. We only want him three days a week, but we’ll take him this full week just cause. He cooks really well, and he’s teaching me how to make samosa’s soon J. So I now have my own room, for the first time since the day we arrived in Kenya, and I really like it. It’s also a perfect square, which I find hilarious.
Another thing that happened this week, our driver got robbed. They forced the window to his room open (he was staying at a hotel, because Jennifer doesn’t have room for him) and stole his phone and his money. So we decided to buy him a new cell phone, and he was so grateful. He’s a really sweet guy, and we just felt bad, so this will be our gift to him. We bought Jennifer some bed sheets, a duvet cover and some pillows for her bed before we left too.
I woke up this morning to go for a run at 6, but it was raining, so I went back to bed. That means it’s been exactly a week since I’ve gone for a run, damn.
That’s all the news I have, pretty boring and uneventful entry, sorry guys.
Keep up the e mails, I really enjoy hearing from you guys.
Love
Kate
