whitehaired CHARACTER INFORMATION-
Canon Character and Series: Doumeki Shizuka, xxxHolic
In-Game Name: Shizuka Doumeki
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Position & Ship: Boatswain, Winding Way
Appearance:
Doumeki is rather tall and long-limbed, and while he is lanky, he's fit and lean as well. He's also somewhat pale, with yellow eyes and black hair that he never does anything with. It's short, but long enough that it can get in his eyes, with a part above the left one. His right has minor scarring and obvious magitechnology. Unlike its counterpart, it's more presentable, with metal curving around and along the outside of the socket, extending to part of his temple as well.
He honestly doesn't care about clothing, and tends to go for simple things. Button-up shirts and slacks are common, along with boots. Occasionally he'll dress up, but when there's no need, there's no point.
Perhaps the most distinguishing feature Doumeki has is something that should easily be forgotten. Almost constantly, his expression is (infuriatingly) neutral. Half-lidded eyes, relaxed brows, and flat line mouth. There are some slight quirks, like when he's amused or bored or something, but it takes something happening for it to differ.
Personality:
As said, Doumeki appears neutral almost constantly. He is probably one of the coolest and calmest people you could meet in your life, with almost nothing able to bother him. Being yelled at? He simply tunes it out or plugs his ears to signify that you're being too loud and should probably be quiet. Strangled? Just continues on with what he was doing (which was most likely eating). He's also rather quiet, only speaking when he finds it necessary. Most replies to conversations are short, one or two word answers (as he prefers expressing himself through action rather than words). Typing may present a difference, but undoubtedly not much of one. This almost gives the impression that he is very boring, but it's the opposite. He's sarcastic, with a rather dry, deadpan sense of humor. It's a little dark and fatalistic, but he doesn't seem bothered by commentary on it, if made. And though simple in replies and expressions, Doumeki is rather intelligent and observant.
He does, of course, have more to him than that. While observant, it's mostly of the people he counts as his friends and the events around them. He's protective of those close to him, even if he doesn't make it immediately obvious in how he interacts on an everyday basis. There is the almost completely subtle way he may tease some of them, with politeness thrown in for others, maybe even the occasional smirk or smile, depending on who it is and what happens.
And though he can do other expressions (surprise, anger, sadness, et cetera et cetera), they only show when something has happened with his friends, whether it be they did something stupid or someone else has done something to them. ... though, sometimes, he can get annoyed easier than other times.
Abilities/Weapons:
First and foremost, he's an excellent archer. This seems a very strange thing, amidst guns and technology flourishing and growing, but he's still damn good at it. That said, once he decided he was leaving Bellcius, he started to learn how to work a gun. He's gotten pretty good at it, but still not as good as he is at archery. But he does find crossbows rather fun.
Raised dominantly by his priest grandfather, Doumeki can exorcise spirits by shooting them with an invisible arrow of pure energy. However, prior to sharing his eye with Watanuki, he very rarely actually saw them (completely unable to on most occasions), but could feel their presence and used that to get a general idea of where they were. Now that he and Watanuki share an eye, he's able to see the spirits that he does. And as someone taught by a priest, he knows a great deal of folklore and things involving spirits.
The simplest ability he has isn't an obvious one to most. His mere presence drives away evil spirits (and negates bad luck towards himself). He doesn't really pay it any mind, so it almost never comes up or becomes noticed unless by those that can recognize spirits and their auras.
Weaknesses:
Really, priest abilities and the occasional moment of stubborn, brute strength aside, he's pretty human. If you stab him, will he not bleed? ... Yeah, he'll bleed. He'll bleed a lot if it's a good hit. But that's connected to another problem.
Doumeki's loyalty can get the best of him; he'll do just about anything for his friends. This doesn't appear obvious in everyday situations, but when put to the test, he'll do whatever necessary to help them. It annoys him sometimes, especially when he knows the person can do better than what they are at the time, but he still helps nonetheless. It does get a little worse; those closer to him, he'll go to greater extremes.
Archery and marksmanship in general relies on eyesight. Though it's not horrible, it's no longer perfect, either. His left eye is entirely fine, but it's the right he has a problem with sometimes. Every once in a while, mostly when there is a high concentration of spiritual energy around, he'll get double-vision in the sense that one eye sees what he sees, where the other can see what Watanuki is seeing. This is highly irritating and will cause a headache once in a while for him, but it's worse when he's trying to shoot stuff. The vision of this eye has also dropped in reliability, to the point that sometimes it's fuzzy rather than just a little blurry. Other times, it's crystal clear. This is inconvenient if it shorts out during a fight.
Though he can see spirits and the like more so now, there are still moments where he cannot.
History:
Though born early and weak in Bellcius, Doumeki had a rather simple life in the upper-middle class. As he grew, he didn't see his parents very often, who were too busy running about and doing jobs for his grandfather's shrine. He was fine with this for the most part, since he had his grandfather Haruka, head priest of the shrine. He told him a great deal of folklore--from all over Reial--and taught him about his family's role as priests, making sure he was always occupied since he didn't play with other children too much (and often wore girl kimonos, which was said to make a grow boy stronger if they were weak as a child. The logic of this is lost on me.) He did get stronger after a time, and began to learn archery alongside the rest of his grandfather's teachings.
This could not last forever, however, and when Doumeki turned ten he lost his grandfather to old age. After this he began to take up his neutral expressions, and started to take care of the shrine duties while his parents were away. They were still distant, still gone more than home, but Doumeki was all right with the quiet and his jobs. He attended school like all kids his age (though was strangely popular despite his personality), and made what could be called acquaintances more than friends.
Until, of course, he met a witch named Yuuko a time later. Through her and her semi-not-quite-employment, he met two people he could actually call his friends. Both were complete contrasts to him, with the loud and excitable Watanuki being completely infatuated with the bright and cheerful Himawari, and quite insistent that he hated Doumeki. It honestly amused him to no end, and despite his strong dislike of Watanuki's often eccentric and bipolar behavior and constant volume changes, he became attached to and watchful over him rather quickly. It was a welcome change to his usual routine.
Things changed dramatically when they were sixteen and their 'employer' took them out to the Ivona side of the Badlands for a job. While thinking things were perfectly fine, they were so close to Ivona, they ended up wandering into a giant spider monster. Angering it by destroying part of its web, it attacked Doumeki and ended up injuring his right eye. Despite escape and no blame being placed, Watanuki still felt guilty and struck a deal with the sorceress that infuriated Doumeki beyond belief: the idiot traded his eye for the damaged one, thus losing sight and use of it instead of him. Not about to let him do something so stupid for him, he made his own deal with the woman to share his sight. Despite any arguments made, Doumeki stuck to it, and it was eventually done in Claiborne.
Though still rightfully angry at Watanuki when they came home, Doumeki came to accept his complaints about the eye rather quickly as both complaints and just the opposite. Things continued normally--or as normally as possible for two teenagers employed to a wish-granter that sent them on ridiculous and sometimes dangerous errands--for another two years, until the idiot got another brilliant idea.
He left Bellcius, looking for something elsewhere. Doumeki kept his commentary to himself about how he'd just end up smothered in spirits one day and continued work there for another six months. Though he still saw Himawari, it was too quiet, and he didn't really want to fall back into the routine he had before meeting the group of 'friends' he'd acquired.
So, with greetings from both woman and girl for Watanuki once he found the
crazy moron, he decided to follow after him and see where it would lead. Someone had to make sure he didn't end up losing his head while he was gone.
