(no subject)
I joined this community specifically to challenge myself... and making 5 lunches a day shouldn't change that! I couldn't do all of them, of course, but I did manage to come up with ideas for my boy (Virgo) and my mama (Leo).
The meat's leftover pulled pork from the night before. Both of them (and the rest of us, of which there are no pictures) got raw veggies, and my boy got rice while my mama got leftover roasted veggies. She's on the South Beach Diet again, so only protein and veggies for two whole weeks... Not very healthy, in my mind, but she claims it's healthier for her than anything else, so I've been trying to make lunch to accord with her wishes.
The boy's (virgo) was a little difficult to come up with... but what's more virginal than a bride in white? The skirt's white american cheese (the folds are just strips of cheese I pressed into the bigger piece, to make it more realistic), the torso/arms/head was cut in one piece from homemade pasta I rolled out and cut by hand. The "bodice" is a piece of radish... also cut by hand, although that was pretty easy. I based the design mostly off of my mama's wedding dress. Angelhair pasta for hair, a little bit of food coloring applied with a toothpick for lipstick (eyes were beyond me, but every bride needs lipstick!), and a big marigold "bouquet". I picked up a small package of edible flowers, as I still haven't gotten around to having my own garden this year.
My mama's, I think, was the better of the two. The "lion" is Babybel cheese, and the face was drawn on with Sharpie (on the wax, so it wasn't eaten, but I made sure to find a sharpie that said "nontoxic" on it anyways!). The mane was little pieces of carrots... I wanted to do tiny carrot curls, but they didn't come out quite right, or quite small enough, so I just cut up the carrots and pushed the cheese in a little bit so they stuck up. The "jungle" he's sitting in is lemon thyme with edible flowers (I handed my boy the package and told him to pick some out that looked like jungle flowers).
Not too bad... I'm pretty proud of them!
