Violent Shakes

Yes, that’s right folks, I didn’t do an entry on Friday night. I hope this makes up for it?

If that was insufficient, then… put it down to tired writing and long Friday nights out in the city. I had a few drinks, did some silly things, got home and collapsed. I can write about “Eats”, a little event my firm had at the end of each week, but frankly, it’s kind of boring. I’m going to consider something else. Today, we consider the difference between “duties” and “obligations”.  Haha, no, I jest. I don’t even care about that. I’m sure a kindly philosopher can explain it to me. I’m actually quite tired. It’s going to be difficult to smash out the next couple of pages, even with cheaty things like Matt Corby’s amazing vocals.

Well, today (or possibly tomorrow) is the day before the start of Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year eve, I suppose, would be an appropriate way to describe it. Everyone should be looking forward to wearing new clothes (I bought some today, spent my entire week’s paycheck), eating dinner with the extended family, and general niceness. The year of the dragon (Zodiac sign. Feel free to look it up >> http://www.chinesezodiac.com/calculator.php) is supposedly good for the snakes! I am, being born in ’89, a Snake. Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean I’m malicious or sneaky or anything of the sort. It just means I was born in ’89. I’ve always wondered about the meaning or significance of zodiac signs and other astrology signs. It feels like one of those situations where you see what you want to see. Some people may be particularly spiritual, and believe in such things (and, as the phrase goes… there is no judgment), but generally, I fail to see how being born at a particular time or a particular date will correspond with some specific personality or character trait.

It may be, that the Zodiac (the Chinese one, that is) provides some help in describing character traits in the same way “Generation Y and Baby Boomers” does. Perhaps being a snake, and being born in ’89 exposes you to similar events at a similar point in your time, which would result in you being a certain way. But that presumes that people are exposed to the same thing throughout their lives, and it fails to consider the 12 year cycle which the zodiac operates on. Ah, but I’m clearly taking this too seriously. I’ve asked a friend to do a Tarot card reading on me, just because I’m curious as to what she’s going to come up with. I’ll keep you updated, if/when it happens. Generally, fortune tellers and their kin (including astrology) operate through vague generalities, excellent body language reading, an acute understanding of human insecurities, great observance to details (sometimes even research) and self fulfilling prophecies. Hogwash, really.

So, for now, goodbye, may your fortune shine bright and may the stars align in your favour.
