Katrina
"FEMA and the federal government are not first responders."
That part really pissed me off about Katrina. Even when I wasn't aware of FEMA I understood on a basic level that the hierarchy of government dictated that the local level should respond first, then the state (who were ultimately responsible for Katrina because they neglected the levees, amongst other things too numerous to list), and FEMA being federal level aid was one of the last organizations to appear so relying on it to solve the problems was a mistake.
Of course this basic knowledge was forgotten in the zeal of the media to blame Bush, so the incompetent rulers of New Orleans got a free pass because the press was too busy pissing and moaning about Bush to get a damn clue so some of the incompetents actually, you know, responsible for the catastrophe were re-elected.
That was the point I went from deciding the press was slanted to the left, to downright moonbatshit insane.
