Gig last night sucked, but it's water under the bridge. Let's just say I don't like it when music is used as background noise anyway, but it's much worse to do it to a live musician. Anyway.
I just came back from voting. I voted for Kerry of course, but only to get Bush out of office. I voted libertarian (my actual party affiliation, if you want to call it that) on all the spaces where I could vote libertarian, but for national level stuff where the only choices were republican or democrat, I chose republican. Here's why;
When one branch of the government is of one party and the other branch is of the other, they are in constant battle for getting things done. Things the president wants to do are shot down by legislature and vice versa. This makes it so that little if anything happens. Which is exactly how it should be. Only if something is a big enough issue that people can transcend their party affiliations to take action should anything be done. When an issue appeals to the human sensibilities rather than the political sensibilities.
I fear for the future of this country. We've come down to the point of voting AGAINST people, rather than for them. I don't like Kerry or Bush, I don't like the Republican of Democratic platforms, at least not in the way that they are applied. I don't like signs littering front yards or the amount of garbage they'll generate once the election's over. I don't like hearing actual fights about who should be our leader.
Where is intelligent debate? Where is involvement? Where is ease of involvement? I have no idea where to go to research all the local stuff, or about which supreme court judges should keep their positions. Seriously, if I knew where to get all the information, I'd put the links all in one place maybe even on my site where people could go search for the information, or put the information itself side by side for ease of comparison.
It always pains me to admit that I'm completely ignorant about something. As you've all doubtless noticed, I usually have at least something to say about any subject that comes up. I don't know what the future holds; I haven't even a guess. Granted, I've fallen behind in my current events, but last I checked Kerry hasn't said anything about the plans he's laid out, except that they exist. I don't know Bush's plans either, but I know what he's given us over the past four years. I don't know if I wanted to vote for Kerry, but I do know that I didn't want to vote for Bush. So I filled in the little bubbles and put my ballot in the machine, and I now just hope for the best.
