Alright, so. I received my preordered Fort Minor's The Rising Tied yesterday in the mail. After much spazzing and excitement and dancing around in my new shirt, I listened to the album, and liked it.
And now, in the middle of my 5th or 6th listen to this album in its entirety, I form
I like it a lot. I love it. Mind you, it's not perfection.
I'm just not feeling 'In Stereo' and i don't really feel that 'Kenji' lives up to the hype we were all feeling when we heard it would be more personal. I guess it came at me from a completely different angle than I thought it would. I was sort of expecting the whining tone that 'Breaking the Habit' was thisclose to being, but it wasn't. It was more of a "hey, did you know this? I but you didnt. lemme tell you a story" and I think I like it a lot better that way.
I really love the beat to 'Cigarettes' but I just can't get into the actual song.
'Get Me Gone' is hilarious, plain and simple. I also love the way it displays Mike as a person as opposed to hiding behind the bullshit evasive answers. But... "lab coat and cowboy hat"?!
And 'High Road' makes me cackle, not because of the song, but because it's
john legend. (courtesy of
kanka_akujo) How this came about is a funny story, but has nothign to do with the song. So... I love Mike's rhymes, the song is good. Also, I'm very glad he put John Legend on there instead of his own voice. Favorite line: "I'm like a struggling doctor; no patients"
The singing on 'red to black' is so pretty and melodic.
I have deep love for 'Believe Me'. It's like way deeper into the Mike-ness. Not sure why but I feel that's sort of my theme song somehow.
As for my favorite song, it's a toss between 'Right Now' and 'There They Go' [bonus track]. the best of 'right now' is that it's so... right. Things do change like that, and it's very i dunno, good for him to consider and even mention those situations. the little people. 'there they go'... he raps fast! i love the beat so goddamn much and omfg it's hot. [you knew the teenie in me would pop out at some point, so don't act surprised]
It's what I thought it would be. Not the best album to touch this earth, but good. Some of those lines that have you trippign out, soem damn good beats, and a whole different side to "M. Shinoda the
cobraholda"... O.o A different side to hip hop that you don't hear on the radio. Creative but still the same. Real.
Overall, I'm loving it, some more than others. The DVD is mildly amusing. Brad's beard is gone again!
Was that critical and creative? I don't know. Deccy and Bibi gave me too much to live up to.
On another note, I am having the best weekend ever and I don't know what it is.
