Baffled....
Today the most amazing thing happened.
The A Cappella Women are singing "Chorale (We Behold Our Dying Saviour)". The piece is out of print... and amazing. Anyways, I got my hands on it and we have been noodling around with, doing grunt work, solfege, etc.
It is an INCREDIBLY romantic piece... lots of give and take, 4 part DIFFICULT women's harmonies, some key suspensions in places that just shatter your ears.
Today I asked the women to start lightly and crescendo through a note and then come back ever so lightly. I don't remember how EXACTLY I said it, but that's the jist of it.
They did it PERFECTLY. The first time.
Rhythm. Pitches. Tone. Dynamics. Inflection. Diction. Warmth. Breath. INTENSITY.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. YES!!!
I'm not gonna lie - I almost cried in front of them. I have NEVER seen that happen before. Not even in A Cappella with Fulton. And then to make it better, they did it EVERY TIME after that. I didn't have to remind them.
I am lucky. I can't wait to get a recording of them on here.
Oh, and apparently if you tell a men's choir to sing with a "college sound", it will fix all of their problems, too. I wish someone had let me in on that info... news I could have used 3 years ago.
