The Chicago Code, The Killing, and Chuck

I really need to make some icons for my new fandoms because although I'm using the one for Chuck right now, the latest episode was the most disappointing out of all my returning shows. I just don't buy that Vivian would become a super-villain so quickly. I actually thought she was going to be revealed as Chuck's half-sister (I don't know. Mary was away for a long time). And they just keep on drawing out this keeping secrets stuff with Ellie and it's too ridiculous. I really hope that Chuck and Sarah get married in the season finale. If the show continues after that I won't be watching.

I really enjoyed the third episode of The Killing. Not a lot happened but it was strangely compelling - they're very good at making characters thinking interesting. I wasn't particularly taken with Holder during the first episode (though I don't think we were supposed to be) but I'm liking him more now and I discovered that the actor is actually Swedish so now I'm really impressed with his performance - I certainly couldn't tell from his accent.

One thing that some people smarter than me pointed out is that we didn't actually see Rosie's face while she was being raped - only a girl in a pink wig. So it might not have been her; possibly it was Stirling. So that could be an effective red herring to stop us suspecting someone from the campaign. I think it is interesting to see the way the murder investigation does affect the political manoeuvrings of Seattle, but it sure is a lot of time to spend on a group of people who might have nothing to do with the murder. So I'm still suspecting Darren, Gwen, and Jamie for the actual killer at the moment (almost certainly involved in hiding the body, though.

The Chicago Code produced a decent episode plot-wise and a very interesting one in terms of relationships. I actually thought Vonda and Isaac were already sleeping together - her tearful confession in the pilot that she was worried about him being killed gave me that impression. I think it would have been nice to build up their friendship a little longer because we haven't spent that much time with them. Hopefully the next ep will show how their dynamic changes.

It was interesting to watch Liam experiencing another side of Gibbons. I wasn't surprised by his generosity for I do believe he cares about the people on some level. He make take more than his share but he does give in return.

One new pairing was intriguing that I had to picspam it a little. I may have found a ship.

Teresa: Good first day.

Ray: And that means I get a second?

Teresa: That means you get a second.

Ray: Well, I can’t thank you enough for the opportunity Superintendent.

Teresa: Oh, you don’t have to thank me, you were the most qualified.

Ray: Oh no, I wasn’t. I had a little bit of time on those other two candidates but I wasn’t picked because of seniority. I noticed those other two were wearing wedding rings and Macey kept talking about his kids. And don’t get me wrong, I don’t care how I got the gig...I guess I’m just saying I understand.

Teresa: You understand what?

Ray: I did two tours in Iraq and lost some close friends on the way. But the guys that were married and had kids...you know, it made it a lot tougher than it already was. I know Officer Betz was really special to you.

Teresa: Yes, he was.

Ray: Hopefully I can earn that some day. But you need to know something about me. I didn’t come back from the desert just to die doing this job and I’m sure as hell not going to let anything happen to you.

Teresa: Okay.

Ray: Goodnight ma’am.

Teresa: Goodnight Ray.

Ray: If you need anything I’ll be right here.

Normally I'm wary of relationships built on a woman needing to be protected by a man. But this scene comes after we've seen just how strong and kickass Teresa is. She took control of that robbery and saved that hostage through the force of her will. We're shown that she doesn't need protecting - her office does. And really, it looks more like he'll be her PA (a traditionally female job) than her body guard. Oh my god - he'll be Pepper Potts!

I think from Ray's perspective, it's not about saying "I'm tough and I'll take care of you" but "I'd like your respect and your trust and I'll look out for you." I mean, he says he wants to "earn" a relationship with her because he knows how valuable that is.

And on top of that he's a very attractive man saying that he's not going to be killed and she's not going to be killed and he's going to stand outside her house all night making sure that's the case.

So yes, I would not mind if the show went there. Would definitely read fic. Would also be happy just to see them develop a strong friendship.
