Being Erica

My brain at the end of the latest Being Erica was doing something like this: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Thankfully, that has now subsided and I am going to attempt stringing some thoughts together on this amazing episode.

It's very rare that TV shows address the issue of males being sexually assaulted. To have it come up here and with Leo, a character whose episodes in the past have had such an emotional impact on the audience because of his gut-wrenching death...wow. That was a kick in the head and the heart (and will certainly colour how I view his earlier appearances).

And yet the episode didn't become some pat lesson about how sexual assault is bad but rather how the acts of violence that you commit can change your character. If someone had done that to my brother, my reaction probably would have been in line with Erica's. And yet, when she asked Adam to go and commit violence on her behalf, I got chills. Clearly Adam will throw a punch in self-defense but he's moved past the point in his life where he is comfortable being violent. It goes to show just how much Erica has to learn about Adam and I can see him being hurt that she would think that way about him.

Of course it's early days between them yet; so far, they've only got the sexual attraction between them. But already I think there are clear signs that they'd be quite functional as a couple. He doesn't back down from her and seems much more her equal than Ethan.

And then, despite knowing that Kai would be back, I was completely surprised that he was at the door. Can't wait to see where that goes.

This episode was so twisty-turny. Well played, show, well played.
