VM fic: So close

May 29, 2006 23:45

So I was taking a study break and having a look over at
veronicamarsfic's tag list when I saw that there wasn't a tag for Gia/Logan fics.

Obviously, something had to be done to remedy this situation. Despite the pressing need to finish this history essay.

She wishes it could be any other moment but this. The music is terrible, despite the list of requests she gave to the DJ. The lighting isn’t complementary - it makes her look sallow. Maybe. She’s not really sure what ‘sallow’ is; the word just popped into her head. Must be from her subconscious.

But he’s sitting there. And she’s gotta take this chance.

“Tell me what you think about me. Seriously. Be completely honest.”

He gazes soulfully into her eyes. His voice is shaking when he finally says, “Oh Gia.”

Her heart leaps. “Yes Logan?”

He ducks his head nervously. She moves closer to him and covers his hand with hers. She likes to think she’s giving him strength.

“You can tell me. You don’t have to be afraid anymore.”

He smiles. “I know, Gia. You give me strength. I feel like I can finally say this.”

She gasps. It’s like he’s psychic or something. A psychic boyfriend would be so awesome. He’d be able to read her mind and always buy her something she actually wants for her birthday which would be a really nice change considering the only thing Dick got her for her birthday was a novelty t-shirt, though of course it is the thought that counts and once she had it washed a couple of times, you could barely even smell the tequila-

“Gia!” Logan’s clasping her hands now.

Gia blushes. She hopes it’s becoming. “Oh sorry. I was just thinking.”

Logan grins. “That’s what I like about you Gia. You think.”

She could die now and be so happy. Well except for the fact that she’d be dead. That’d be a real bummer.

“You know what else I like about you?” he asks, his thumb tracing circles on her palm.

She shivers. My smile maybe? She shakes her head.

“Your smile,” he says.

Gia jumps back a little. Is he actually psychic?

Logan gazes into her soul. Yes Gia, I am actually psychic.

No way!

Way. And right now I’m communicating with you telepathically.

Does this mean I’m psychic too?

No.

Crap.

I heard that.

Crap!

Seriously Gia. Stop swearing in your mind. I can hear everything you think.

This isn’t fun anymore.

How do you think I feel? I have to hear everyone’s thoughts. All day. I’m forever getting static from Dick. Oh and the Backstreet Boys? Seriously? Come on. That is so mid to late 90s. It’s not even funny in an ironic way.

She snatches her hands away and stands.

He looks at her, tears filling his eyes as he pulls his sleeves over his hands.

“What? You don’t like me now because you know my secret? My curse?”

Staring into those eyes, Gia’s resolve begins to weaken. She’s like a candle in the wind.

And that’s a lame Elton John song. What is with your taste in music?

She screams and slams her hands over her ears.

“Stop it!”

“Can’t,” he says dejectedly. “It’s my curse to bear. It’s why all my girlfriends break up with me and cheat on me. They just can’t stand me being in their head.”

Gia finds herself getting a little teary. It’s a really sad story.

“Is that why Veronica broke up with you?”

He looks at her with a ‘like duh’ expression on his face. She gets that a lot.

“Of course. Do you really think she’d leave all this,” he says, pointing to himself with sleeve covered hands, “just for Duncan?” His look is incredulous. Another big word. Her subconscious is really smart.

She sighs and leans against the table. “I guess not.”

“So,” he asks hopefully, “do you want to go out?”

The Backstreet Boys’ ‘Incomplete’ begins playing.

She jumps up. “Hey! They’re playing one of my requests!” She looks at him and smiles. “And you just asked me out. I guess it’s meant to be.”

Logan’s not looking at her anymore. He seems to be pulling sleeves out of his sleeves.

“They aren’t playing your song Gia,” he says distractedly. He’s playing with a deck of cards now. It’s very impressive considering the amount of sleevage. He looks up at her.

“Pick a card.”

Gia feels confused. She hates it when that happens. “No Logan. I can hear them playing my song. Why can’t you?”

Logan shakes his head. “Oh Gia.”

***

She slams her hand down on her alarm clock and flops back against on her Hello Kitty pillow. She sighs…sadly.

“I was so close that time. So close.”
