Greetings all. It's been quiet around here for the past couple of months because I was away and then I was trying to catch up on all the school work I didn't do while I was away. I've been sneaking onto LJ when I could give myself the chance.

I am mostly caught up on TV and film so lets talk about that.

Don't mind at all!

I'm worried about a reconciliation too. I can definitely see the show going there as they've certainly built the foundation. But I really don't want that! Peter is a compelling character and I generally like him but I think Alicia deserves to be on her own, to be respected for herself, and to work only for her own career and ambitions.

Hart of Dixie is doing a whole lot of things wrong or badly:

1. Relying on Southern clichés and quirky town clichés without making us care about the town and people of Bluebell.

2. Forcing the love pentagon between Zoe, George, Lemon, Lavon, and Wade without giving us compelling evidence for all the variations.

3. Well, actually, I buy Zoe/Wade, George/Lemon, and Lavon/Lemon, but Zoe/George? Not really. They have a love of New York and a few "high-brow" interests in common (because Alabama is a cultural wasteland apparently) and are nice to each other but that's it. The actors don't have great chemistry and the writers haven't shown us why they'd make a great couple.

4. The show pushes the romance stuff and doesn't focus enough on Zoe making friends. Her closest friends are Lavon (and I do love that friendship), 14 year old Rose, and Addie the receptionist. She was supposed to be improving her social skills by becoming a GP but we haven't seen much evidence of that.

5. And damn, but I just don't buy Rachel Bilson as cold and socially maladjusted. Come on! That girl is funny and adorable - the role doesn't play to her strengths at all.

And that's just off the top of my sleepy head. The show has a good stretch of episodes in the middle where they seemed to have gotten over Zoe/George and were having fun with Zoe/Wade and also delving into Lemon's backstory.

Veep is cynical and it is nasty but it isn't sexist. Basically everyone is scheming and incompetent.

I hadn't seen that but I'm not surprised. I may still finish the season.

Yeah, I really don't want a Peter/Alicia reconciliation ever. I hated that shot of her at the end of this season when she was once again standing by him as he made a public statement -- this time his announcement to run. (Why would she ever go back there?)

Peter's political career is an important element of the show though, and a couple of characters have told us that he can't run without her. So maybe a Peter/Alicia reunion is a requirement for the story they want to tell ie. Peter's campaign.

I don't disagree with any of your criticisms of HoD. But I suppose I just haven't watched enough of it yet for them to bother me much. I was hoping the show might sell me on Zoe/George in some episode down the line, the way they sold me on Zoe/Wade this week (episode 6, where Zoe's mom shows up).

Using your Hart of Dixie tag I just read that Wade was in Generation Kill!

We've been told of Alicia's value so often that I half suspect her affair with Will will come out and she'll suddenly become poison to his campaign. That would be an interesting turn of events.

He was! He played Q-Tip and did a good job with the role.
