Thor 2: Electrical Storm Boogaloo will be directed by a woman, Patty Jenkins!

The announcement also says that Natalie Portman and Hiddles will both be back, so YAY for that too.

YES! It's also nice to know that Loki won't be dying in The Avengers. Fingers crossed for a redemption arc!

I DIDN'T MEAN THAT SARCASTICALLY, I LITERALLY CANNOT THINK OF ANYTHING except star wars i guess, ok. BUT STAR WARS WASN'T AS EASILY SOLVEABLE WITH HUGS. also anakin skywalker is provably a complete idiot.

On Avatar: The Last Airbender they redeemed the villain but that was a kid's tv show.

HOW CAN NO MOVIE NOT DONE THIS BEFORE? OR ARE WE JUST BEING REALLY DENSE AND CAN'T THINK OF ANY EXAMPLES? I HAVE BEEN READING A LOT OF HENRY JAMES AND HE DOES MAKE ME WANT TO EAT MY OWN HAIR SO I'M NOT REALLY AT MY BEST.

oohhh i am so totally watching that show, MUST GET ROUND TO THAT. i need to so i can communicate with my best friend on his correct level, ie, avatar.

I SERIOUSLY THINK NO MOVIE HAS DONE THIS. i mean, most popular movies are straight-up generic Hero's Journey, which doesn't leave a hell of a lot of room for villain-redemption. maybe... in Sky High the mean kid turns out to be a nice dude towards the end?? and in veronica mars logan kind of gets nicer?? NO, I DON'T THINK SUCH A FILM ACTUALLY EXISTS.

do you HAVE to read henry james? i mean i haven't read anything by him so i'm not qualified to comment really, but MAYBE YOU SHOULD BREAK FREE FROM THIS ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP BEFORE YOU GET A HAIR-BEZOAR?

You have to watch Avatar! The characterisation is amazing and it does feminism better than most shows for adults.

I don't think it should count if they seemed like a jerk but turned out to be good or were always an anti-hero. They pulled it off with a couple of villains on Farscape but again, TV show.

DUDE. WE HAVE INVENTED A NEW THING. WE SHOULD PUT ON OUR FINEST SCREENWRITING HATS AND GET TO WORK. FIRST QUESTION: WHAT SHOULD THE CHARACTERS WEAR?

I HAVE to read Henry James for class. I was previously reading his American travelogues which were pretty awful. Typical sentence:

It is more than a comfort to him, truly, in all the conditions, this accepted vision of the too-defiant scale of numerosity and quantity--the effect of which is so to multiply the possibilities, so to open, by the million, contingent doors and windows: he rests in it at last as an absolute luxury, converting it even into a substitute, into the constant substitute, for many luxuries that are absent. Now I'm reading his love letter to London which isn't so bad ( ... )

Ooh, wizard police officer sounds fun. Report back if it's any good. After The Night Circus I'm in the mood for a little more magic.
