Agua entry

Tuesday, Katie, Justina and I (and Nicole, in spirit/origami pig form) took a fantabulous trip down to Herkimer. Those two got their nails done while I sat and enjoyed the fumes of the nail parlor, then we headed over to Applebee's for dinner. While Katie was in the ladies' room, Justina came up with the wicked scheme to tell Katie that we told our waitress that it was her birthday. Of course, we didn't really tell the waitress that, but Katie got mad anyway, haha. "Do you know what they DO here on your birthday?" We got all the way through our meal and even through dessert before the anticipation wore off. Result? "You guys suck," or something to that effect, haha.Wednesday...was The Great Flood of 2006! It's been raining in upstate New York for approximately the last month straight. I knew it was only a matter of time before some flooding occurred, but I didn't imagine anything like this. The pond here was about four feet higher than it normally is, and everything from Little Falls down to Roscoe was absolutely covered in water. Here's some pictures I took:

The waterfalls in Miller's Mills

The fish swimming on my neighbor's lawn

The road over by the King's house

And this is where the King's yard normally is...under the lake

After Bobby got home from work (which I'm sure was tons of fun for him, what with having to close the Thruway and all), we decided to cruise and survey the damage. All the traffic that was diverted from the Thruway was now on Route 20, stretching all the way from Springfield to Bridgewater. Bumper to bumper. Oh, how we laughed at those poor fucks. Richfield Springs was a mess, and I can only imagine how bad Cooperstown was. They actually closed the Hall on Wednesday. They NEVER do that. The best part was the camps around Canadarago, though, right near Baker's Beach. Hilarious. So, what with all the traffic on 20, Loki and a couple of his friends and I decided to be enterprising vendors. We wandered up and down the road from about 9:30 to 11:00 hawking our wares... "Soda for a dollar! Buck a soda!" I spent $32 buying soda...we made $12. No profit, but good times.Thursday it was back to work...even though Otsego Lake is still way higher than it should be.

Upstate New Yorkers (following Hurricane Katrina): "I'm glad it never floods here!"
Upstate New Yorkers (on Wednesday): "What the fuck."
