So to pick up from where we left off, we ate a lot more delicious food at Justin's house before leaving and hitting the road. I forget if I mentioned this before, but he comes from a family of very conservative Christians and a little bit of that rubbed off on him (pro-life stickers on his bass drum) and in the morning, his mom basically went up to Cayce's car and starting like staring inside the windows looking for incriminating stuff. She found "LORDS OF CHAOS: THE BLOODY RISE OF THE SATANIC METAL UNDERGROUND" in the front seat and immediately stormed up to Justin's room and said something like "WHO ARE YOU BRINGING INTO MY HOUSE?" He wrote it off as a joke and then got us to move the book under the seat and eventually we left on good terms, but it was a weird, sketchy situation. By the way, if you ask people in Carlinville, IL how long it takes to get to Bloomington, make sure you specify that you're talking about Bloomington INDIANA. Because that's 5 hours away and Bloomington, Illinois is two hours away. So that's how we woke up late and missed the afternoon barbecue show we were supposed to be playing. There were still people there when we got there, but it would have been weird and awkward at that point. So instead we just skateboarded and went in the amazing water slide-filled pool and went to a few parties and a really awesome show with Totally Michael and Death Set. The food co-op in Bloomington is absolutely amazing and they have really delicious cheap vegan sandwiches that are very filling. At some point, we ended up back at the house we were staying at, where a girl named Cater who I knew from the Death Star house lived. She had set up what would have been the show through Freddy from the Riot Before. Also living in the house were Emma Lee and Brad from Rosa/Punkin Pie. So we were all sitting on their back porch drinking beer and The Riot Before mentioned something about going on tour with O Pioneers!. Chloe, a girl I didn't know who lived in the house, kept asking questions like "Oh how's that band? Are they good dudes?" The Riot Before dudes and myself and Cayce gave honest answers saying we liked the dudes and that their band was pretty good and at some point Chloe and Brad and Emma Lee started looking at each other and laughing and being like "WE KNOW THAT BAND AND THEY SUCK!" They obviously were trying to corner us and then basically let us know that we were totally not cool because we didn't hate O Pioneers!. Then we got basically lectured for 15 minutes about what shitty dudes the O Pioneers! dudes were and how much their band sucked (by the people in Punkin Pie? LOL). It made the night very tense and the tension didn't really get cut, even after watching High Fidelity, even after going to sleep. The next morning we got to bear witness to their landlady coming in and screaming at them for a bunch of shit, which was kind of funny but kind of lame and awkward too. I guess we left on a good note, but I would be lying if I said I didn't resent them for being such assholes about the O Pioneers! thing.

Review of Bloomington:

It was fun to eat good food and hang out with Ryan and Cater and other people I don't see very often, but a good portion of the city is pretty cliquish and lame and elitist. The town itself is absolutely beautiful and the pool there rules. Boxcar Books is also one of the best infoshops I've ever been to. There is a lot of cool stuff and a lot of cool music, but the people there can be elitist and lame, a sentiment I've heard echoed from a lot of people, even people in Plan-It-X bands.

After we left this morning, we had a nice 4 hour drive to Columbus. Joe drove a good portion of the way and we got to be MEN in the front seat. I bought cologne from a cologne dispenser in a truck stop since I forgot to put on deodorant this morning. Columbus is really awesome. Ryan, Austin, the other folks at the Screamer House, and all their friends fucking rule and the show we played in the park was pretty fun considering how informal it was and how few people there had heard of us before. We managed to make 30 bucks in combined donations and merch sales. And an incredible, epic 4 square battle ensued. Hanging out with the dudes in the Riot Before for the last night of our 3-day mini-tour was sad and fun. They are in the other room now at the Scramer house watching the Ramones DVD and I think I will join them.
