Jared wakes exactly 23 minutes before the alarm is set to get off. He closes his eyes and allows himself to doze for a bit longer before he blinks sleepily a few more times and glances at the clock again. 19 minutes until it's Jared, way too early to get up time.
He smiles.
Turning to his side, he finds Jensen sound asleep in their shared bed, burrowed in the duvet, pulled all the way up to his shoulders and neck to keep the December cold away. Jensen's lips are slightly parted, there's a fine trail of drool from the corner of his mouth to the pillow and Jared doesn't think he's ever been more in love with Jensen than he is right now.
He allows himself to admire the view for a few more minutes. Jensen looks so peaceful, so totally out to the world. Undisturbed and rested.
They finished shooting a few days ago and both Jensen and Jared had agreed that it would be nice to spend a few relaxing days with each other before heading to Texas. Later in the day, they're both leaving Vancouver to spend Christmas with their respective families and until then, Jared plans on enjoying his time with Jensen as much as possible.
Only seven more minutes until the alarm goes off. Jared ghosts a soft kiss over Jensen's temple before he untangles himself to get out of bed. Jensen makes an unhappy sound as Jared tries to move away from him. Subconsciously, he tightens his arm around Jared's middle and when Jared lifts the covers to slip out of bed, Jensen makes that unhappy sound again. He doesn't wake. He doesn't get up either when Jared bends over his sleeping form and softly kisses Jensen's cheek.
For a moment Jared is tempted to leave the alarm set. Maybe, if he allows it to go off at his usual wake-up time, Jensen will have fought his way out of his little makeshift cave and into the kitchen by the time Jared returns from his early morning run with the dogs. Maybe there will be breakfast.
Or maybe, there will be deadly glares and a foul mood all day - because Jared clearly was no longer in bed when the alarm went off - and that's not something Jared wants for their last day together before they go on separate ways for two weeks. Jared sort of depends on Jensen to be in a happy mood today, with everything he's got planned, so he decides to be a good boyfriend and turns the alarm off.
He quickly grabs some clothes off the floor and slips out the door as silently as possible. Jared's fast in his morning routine. He does only the very necessary, knowing all too well he'll do the proper thing once he returns, soaked in sweat. When he reaches the laundry room to let out Sadie and Harley, they're already yapping happily, excited by the prospect of getting outside.
"Hush," Jared says with a laugh. "You're gonna wake Jensen and you know how he gets when he's grumpy. No dog treats."
The dogs stop barking for a second and while Jared knows perfectly fine that they don't actually understand what he's saying, he's amused by their looks. As if they were considering the threat of Jensen not secretly feeding them all kinds of stuff they can't scrounge from Jared at the breakfast table.
Jared laughs again and ushers Sadie and Harley out the front door. It's still dark outside, which is no surprise considering the time of the day and year. They settle into a fast pace and by the time Jared's done with his normal route, he's soaked in sweat.
He stops by Jensen's favorite bakery on his way back home to grab a few bread rolls, two croissants and today's newspaper. Entering the house, Jared finds it quiet and peaceful, just like he left it. There are no sounds, no smells, no movements. Jared grins to himself; so much for breakfast. He doesn't call out for Jensen, in case Jensen's still asleep. Jared can think of a few more ways to wake him up that'll score him a better mood than shouting.
Taking matters into his own hands, Jared feeds Sadie and Harley (who eye their empty bowls with big eyes), puts the food away and goes to take a shower. The hot water feels heavenly on his clammy skin, washing away the evidence of his morning workout while relaxing his sore muscles with delicate pressure. Jared could spend ages in here but ultimately decides against it.
After toweling off, getting dressed and brushing his teeth, Jared heads to the kitchen to make breakfast. He starts with the coffee, making it just like he knows Jensen likes it best. While the coffeemaker does its magic, Jared prepares the pancakes, eggs and bacon. He heats up the bread rolls and croissants a little and as he arranges everything nicely on two plates, his stomach rumbles loudly, indicating that he needs to hurry up. Adding two cups of coffee, two glasses of juice and the paper and Jared is good to go.
They don't usually eat breakfast in bed. More often than not, breakfast consists of filling coffee in their travel mugs and grabbing something to eat in the car on their way to set. Today's a special occasion though and nothing short of breakfast in bed will do any justice. Carefully, Jared balances the large tray up the stairs and toward the bedroom. He's glad he left the door ajar earlier, making it now possible to nudge it open with his foot instead of having to set the tray down or try any one-handed maneuvers to get the door open that could potentially end in a disaster.
He finds Jensen just like he left him before his run; almost entirely hidden underneath the covers, a slow and steady rise and fall of the duvet as the only indicator that the subject below it is actually still breathing. Jared sets the tray down on the nightstand before he lifts the covers and slips back into bed with Jensen. He spoons him from behind, absorbing Jensen's body heat. Jared's front is fully pressed against Jensen's back and when Jared sneaks a leg between Jensen's, Jensen finally stirs.
"I thought we talked about this," Jensen grumbles, mostly still asleep.
Jared takes his time answering. He presses a soft kiss to the nape of Jensen's neck, inhaling the sweet, sleep-indulged scent. "Talked about what?"
"You rubbing your icy feet against my calf," Jensen complains, but there's no heat to it.
Jared wants to argue that they're not even that cold, maybe just a little. But since his opinion is mostly based on the room temperature, rather than the temperature underneath the covers like Jensen's, he doesn't think Jensen and he are on the same page in terms of judgment. Not that it matters anyway. He rubs his feet against Jensen's calves again for good measures and when Jensen laughs and turns around so that he's facing Jared, Jared laughs too and kisses Jensen softly on the lips.
"I brought breakfast," Jared offers.
Jensen hums low in his throat, scoots a little closer to Jared and whispers, "Yeah, about that…"
He nips at Jared's lower lip, kisses the corner of Jared's mouth, down to his chin and throat, back up again until he finds Jared's lips once more. Jared losses track of time after that, enjoys making out for awhile. Not that it matters anyway. All that matters is the feeling of Jensen's body against his own, the sounds Jensen makes as Jared caresses a hand over his skin.
"We should eat," Jensen whispers as he pulls away. "I'm starving."
Jared steals one more kiss before he grabs the tray from the nightstand and gets Jensen and him settled. They share their (by now mostly cold) breakfast in silence, except for Jensen's occasional moan at how good it is.
"You know I love my family but man, I wouldn't mind spending a few more days with you here," Jensen admits, snuggling close to Jared's side and putting his head on Jared's shoulder.
Jared doesn't answer at first. He places the tray on the floor and takes Jensen into his arms, pulling him closer to his chest. He presses a soft kiss to Jensen's scalp and says, "I know, baby, I know."
As an afterthought, he adds, "Me too."
Of course, Jared loves his family and he's looking forward to spending some time over Christmas with them in Texas. But filming's been hectic and he hasn't had as much alone time with Jensen as he wanted to. The idea of having to say goodbye to Jensen for two weeks in only a couple of hours does funny things to Jared's belly. And not the good kind of funny that he usually gets when he thinks about Jensen.
"Maybe," Jensen says, running his index finger along Jared's chest, tracing the firm lines of muscles, "maybe we should make sure to use the little bit of time left as best as possible."
He doesn't give Jared much time to answer as he climbs into Jared's lap and claims Jared's lips as if his life depended on it. Their heated kisses quickly turn into something more. Jared gets Jensen off with his hands and mouth because going down on Jensen is one of his all-time favorite things in bed. There's something about the sounds Jensen makes when Jared sucks his dick. There's something about receiving a blowjob that makes Jensen lose control and Jared loves that he can do this, that he can make Jensen come undone just like this.
"Let me help you with that," Jensen says once he's recuperated from his orgasm. He reaches for Jared's hard cock and strokes him with sure, firm pressure. Jared could get lost in the sensation. He places a hand on top of Jensen's, increasing the pressure just a little more and together, their fingers entwined, they make Jared come.
They don't speak right away, enjoying the afterglow of their climax. It's Jensen who moves first. Turning onto his side and nipping at Jared's shoulder, he suggests, "We should shower. I feel pretty gross."
Showering turns into more blowjobs and from where Jared's standing, he's got no right to complain. They clean up the house later and finish packing. Once their chores are done, they exchange gifts (Jared got Jensen some new golf equipment, Jensen got him a watch Jared has been ogling for a while) and somehow it only leads to more sex. On the rug in front of the Christmas tree sounds like a brilliant idea, something Jared always wanted to try, but as soon as Jensen starts complaining about carpet burns and fallen off needles that poke him in the butt, they decide to move it onto the couch instead.
The cab that's supposed to take them to the airport has been honking three times already. Even though they're going to ride together, Jensen and Jared both know that the airport is not the right place for PDAs and a proper goodbye.
"Make sure you call once you land, okay?" Jensen says as he kisses Jared and hugs him close.
"Yeah, you too. And call regularly once you're there."
Jensen nods and nips at Jared's jaw. He sighs. "I miss you already. You sure you don't wanna come to Richardson with me?"
Jared laughs softly because this is not the first time they're discussing this and he's got a feeling it won't be the last. He hopes that by next year, something will have changed about their situation, in a way that they can spend Christmas together without lies and keeping secrets from their families.
"I will, if you explain to my momma why I'm not with her for the holidays," Jared laughs and pecks Jensen's cheek.
The cabbie honks again and as he grabs his bag, Jensen says, "We'll have to figure something out before next Christmas."
Before he makes it out the door, Jared grabs him by the arm, pulls him close for a final kiss and promises, "We will, Jensen."
When Jensen nods and smiles at him, Jared adds, "I love you, you know that, right?"
"I love you too," is Jensen's only answer.
