Wednesday
"Bendígame, Padre, porque he pecado."
Bless me, Father, for I have sinned.
The Padre is probably tempted to say “What? It’s you again?” as Luis gets down on the mahogany kneeler, exactly the same one as the past two days, exactly the same time.
The wood is still warm from the old woman confessing just minutes before him. He always chooses the compartment that was used by the person speaking to the priest before him, even though this is not the common thing, but Luis was never one for common things.
As he kneels there, he can even still smell her cheap perfume. Probably some poor copy of a costly designer fragrance.
Luis would never buy cheap.
Only the best and most exclusive is good enough for him and his little lover.
“Padre, I need to talk to the Lord, I need to tell him my sins.”
Luis pauses.
“I cannot bear keep them to myself any longer.”
The Padre releases a little sigh, as he looks at the little boy through the rusty grid. The person he perceives as a little boy, rather more. He probably pities the poor sinner.
Did you know, Padre, that the Devil changes his appearance to tempt the Human Kind? You sure do.
“Speak them out then, Son. The Lord is listening.”
Luis moisturises his lips before he finally admits today’s sin, which in fact is only one sin of many. That is something only Luis knows. And Xabi.
But he can’t be bothered to confess the rest.
Today it’s lust.
Luxuria.
“Padre, I cannot resist the carnal desire. I crave it. Everyday.”
Sex.
Luis is aware that this itself does not necessarily have to be a deadly sin, because after all lust can be seen as the purest form of love - for Luis it is, without a doubt - between a man and his wife. And love, is that not what the Lord gave his creations as the highest virtue to aspire?
Just like he expected, the Padre says that this is not necessarily a bad thing, that this is not categorically to be condemned and that he will have to tell more for the priest to assess the situation properly.
Oh, Padre. Old, naive man.
Luis is close to bursting out laughing, though it is highly inappropriate and disrespectful.
Just like the thought of fucking Xabi in this confessional.
Luis imagines for a moment how it would be to thrust into Xabi, press him against the wooden walls. Auburn against mahogany. How Xabi’s desperate moans would hall in this little compartment or how his pale fingers would seek hold by grabbing the lattice, when being fucked hard from behind.
Luis concludes that he should ask Xabi to come with him to confession next time. After all, Xabi is sinning too. Each time when they both give in to the sin of flesh.
“Son, you have to tell me more.”
Oh, Padre, I was somewhere else with my thoughts.
“Forgive me, Padre,” Luis whispers.
Pauses.
“The thing is - “
Again there is this fake angelic expression on his face, the expression that makes others feels sorry for him, that makes them think he was innocent and helpless.
As if…
“The person I desire is not my wife.”
Luis lowers his head, biting into his folded hands, avoiding the Padre’s gaze. Not because he was ashamed, rueful, but rather because he has once more to try hard not to burst out laughing.
Adultery.
Luis stops at this point, doesn’t reveal that he is craving the touches of another man, his burning kisses. He thinks the priest might not be able to take it.
Yet.
Luis hears a little laugh, a sweet, soft laugh, knows that it’s only in his own head and that the Padre cannot hear it in his state of deep shock. It’s the devilish voice of Asmodai, the demon of lust and harlotry, protector of gay men.
Eventually, the priest speaks, a neutral voice, not quite cold and harsh, but no longer as patronising and caring as it was just before this last confession made. He tells Luis that this is a grave sin and that that he will have to show a lot of remorse and end this affair immediately, should he desire eternal life among the heavenly creatures.
Luis never intended to neither end the affair with Xabi, nor choose the right path to heaven.
Yet he nods, as more Crocodile tears run down his flawless, clean-shaven face. Luis releases an almost inaudible sob. It’s dramatic and when he looks at the Padre from underneath his lashes, he almost has to grin as the old man’s features soften a little.
Luis is an expert when it comes to misleading people, so the priest reassures him that he will not be smothered in brimstone and fire, but that the Lord’s mercifulness is unlimited to those who repent. However, this time he stresses the fact once more that Luis will have to end this affair.
A change? Is he starting to see the real Luis?
Lucifer’s little companion.
Luis suddenly feels very warm.
Pleased.
But the Padre, judging the expression on his face, is not quite there.
Stupid fool that you are, Padre.
"Amen, Padre."
"Amen. God speed you."
See you tomorrow…
