Upcoming Surgery
Well, the surgery for the cochlear implant in my left ear is set for this Thursday, January 20th. It'll be at University of Iowa Hospital and will take about three hours. I don't know the exact time yet; the hospital will let me know tomorrow. I'm a little nervous as I've always hated hospitals, but I have confidence that the doctor is the right one for the job. And I'll only have to stay in the hospital overnight so I rest at home. I plan to stay with Dad over the weekend. Fun times ahead!
The surgery is only for the inner portion of the implant. I don't get the outer part (that's similar to a hearing aid) until a month afterward. Even then it'll just be noise for a while. But I'm optimistic that the implant will help in the long run. It's better than being effectively deaf as I am now.
