Election results

So much for voter anger against the government. Almost all of Iowa's incumbents won re-election last night. The main exception was our Democratic governor who was ousted by the Republican challenger. This guy was governor in the 80s and 90s and while he was decent, I can't help feeling in electing him that we're looking back rather than forward, but whatever.

What really sticks in my craw though is that it seems all three Supreme Court judges lost their retention votes. These are the same three judges who struck down the same-sex marriage ban. I honestly didn't think this would be an issue as justice retention almost never is, but I guess a lot of people were angry over the ruling. Not this changes anything. The ruling is still in effect. Plus, we get new judges through a merit-based, bi-partisan process which is highly unlikely to change anything in the future. This was revenge pure and simple. The justices ruled on law to uphold the state constitution and this is the thanks they get. Utterly lame.
