I'm going to blame itllcometome for this. We've been talking about the current arc of Batman and Robin, issues 4-6 via messages and my thoughts are too long to include in a message.

SO here you go, girl!

First of all, let me say, I read Batman RIP. It was boring, so I don't know what all these fanboys are talking about, it being so great. Then again, some ( Read more... )

way too much thought on this, -tt-, batman and robin, comics, jason todd

I'm not convinced it is Jason. I have a cracked out theory that it's the Joker impersonating him, but I can't yet account for Dick not being at all surprised by the look of him versus how he looked in BftC.

Hahah! I never thought that way, so maybe that's why parts were a bit more enjoyable to me? Idk.

I want to wait on another artist before I say anything definitive, but he hasn't got Jason's facial structure. His face is too long. It's been bothering me since I saw it.

Oh goodness. Tan's art on Jason is completely off.
I'd like to see the script for that -- I mean did Morrison specifically call for him to look like Rorschach or what?
What I find most interesting about this change is that in a recent Batman cover (693), Daniel had the faces of people who were going to appear in the book.
Jason's face -- a broad face, red domino mask, with black hair appears. This is the one that is clearly most recognizable.

So I don't really know what the fuck Tan was up to with that. Ha.

Like I said, certain parts I disagreed with.
Most definitely the use of a sort-of religious verse (vengeance arms against his red right hand) [Actually comes from Paradise Lost, a book containing stories about Satan and Adam and Eve} ----- unless it were to relate back to Jason's use of the Kris.

Speaking of, we haven't seen the ol' Kris in awhile. I'm waiting for the story of why he chose that particular blade.

Uh, if I was on my IJ, I would have my keris icon. Yeah, I'm going to go backwards here, bare with me.

The only person the Joker knew about in the family was Jason. He did kill him, after all. It would be the one legitimate thing that would mindfuck everything and still work, since GM said Bruce being in the past won't have any baring on it and Batman Annual #25 establishes Jason pre-Batman as a dark haired street kid. However, compare the facial shapes from the killing joke above compared with the shot of Jason doing his 'it's much too late for that speech' compared to Jason's and you may see what I mean.

It's not just Tan. Morrison commented on his hair being dyed, receeding and having of the acne so I think Tan just went with what he was told. Did miss his curl though, I admit.

Against his red right hand? That was about Black Glove, which has killed Bruce. I can see why Jason would be pissed (again, the only other person villain wise who really hated them was the Joker) at them about that.

Wait, I thought Bruce died when he shot Darkseid with an Omega Beam??

I've heard speculation that Jason was working for Hurt/the Black Glove.
I don't think so. I think he was working on his own, being his badass self.

No, I thought he was targetting them after they basically screwed Bruce over. They cause him a heart attack, infiltrate the Manor and hit Alfred. I could be wrong, but I believe they also set up the hallucinations where Bruce relives his precrisis stuff and post crisis stuff, which happens directly before he went to his death. I can see Jason being seriously pissed about all of that, considering they were screwing with his mind and creating a triples.

I was going to ask how would he even know about all the Black Glove shit, but Jason's a sneaky fucker.

Guy just has a way of finding out shit.

Which, off-topic, I kinda hate when haters diss him as not being as smart or not as detective savvy, when it's been proven time and again he's really good at finding out stuff.

He's very smart. I hate it when people forget the Talia connection, considering those are the resources he had to retrain. Of course he's good. He's not Robin, he may not have graduated from it like Dick but he sure as hell isn't him anymore.

Yeah.

Problem you have is, I think I mentioned the Punisher problem.

Jason's way may be, in fact, more effective in simply stopping the supervillains (stopping crime forever? No. That's an impossible goal).

But a) it makes him judge, jury and executioner and b) following UtH we see him that horrific Nightwing arc where he was literally made out to be a chump. (With tentacles!)

So that's where you have the problem of people forgetting that he's a really smart, fit, competent guy who has connections and can do his job effectively.

(Or just choosing to forget it, depending on whether they like him or not).
