PPS: Symphony is stressful because I have a lot more to be worried about as 2nd chair...I sit with a bunch of foreign doctoral students who are way better than me. It's not that I shouldn't be in front of the people who I'm in front of, it's that there need to be more people in front of me (like a few more Master's students, and I wish the doctoral music ed student in 3rd chair had picked up the pace a bit! Haha), so yeah. It's like being a rock star. Everyone knows my name...people are really nice to me...professors in the School of Music know who I am, and I don't know them at all...the doctoral students all know me and say hi to me whenever I see them...they offer me help on my solo stuff...yeah, it's pretty fab. We'll see how the Concerto Competition concert goes because our 1st chair viola will be competing, and probably will be one of the winners, so that means that I will sit 1st in the orchestra for that concert and I'm already REALLY REALLY REALLY stressed because I have to lead a section of dedicated, talented musicians on music that none of us knows. It's pretty intimidating. I will be trying to get the scores and music a few days early so I can learn everything and be well prepared. But yeah...it's nice that I get to play in the top undergrad quartet this year, so that's why I agreed to play, haha, but Dr. Neumann (my viola prof) is still the devil. Ew. I will probably be switching studios at the semester or maybe at the end of the year. We'll see. I shall give detail of how awful he's been in just the first few weeks this year. Eek.
