I do believe that the Astrophysics major will be dropped...oh, what I can do with the extra time:
STUDY ABROAD
Take electives
Have a stronger GPA
Study for all of my big tests for grad school
Practice viola a lot, and really finish the minor (because I'll have time to take the classes)
Not be so stressed
Finish in 4 years without even breathing hard
What I lose:
Taking classes on a subject that deeply intrigues me
The opportunities of patent law (you need a science degree)
The ability to say that I am an Astrophysics major (it feels good, try it)
So...I think that the three main losses can be easily forgotten as A) I think I'm content to just be an educated outsider of astrophysics and take it as a very serious hobby B)I want to be a judge and very few patent lawyers go on to become judges C)I'm pretentious enough, why do I need another reason to be pretentious?
I might consider picking up another major that I could finish in time...French, Linguistics, or Political Science would be easy enough and I could pick one of them up with few problems. I just found out that I can minor in Astrophysics, but the requirements are about 3/5 of the major, so it seems silly to not just complete the major. I could do a Political Science minor if I wanted...dropping the major would make my life so much easier...ugh, but if I'm going to drop it now so I can completely focus on other stuff. I suppose a lot of things have been coming together to tell me that having a science degree does not assure a well-paying job, as PhD Physics students only start out making a few thousand per year more than English PhD's. I can't believe that they changed the program to make it impossible for me to finish in 4 years (they way they moved courses I would need 6 to complete the degree), so my only truly acceptable alternative is to drop it. Being able to study abroad is the greatest benefit of this...It's not officially dropped and my father is strongly against dropping it, but yeah...I think it's as good as dropped now that the temptation of studying abroad is in front of me.
In other news, Banana Republic was a great pick-me-up today (thanks Amanda!)and I got a book about opportunities for English majors, so that's great. I'm just excited about getting to study at Oxford now (yay! That's one of our best study abroad programs and I would definitely call it my first choice, staying at a Victorian mansion on the Oxford campus and all...) as well as not having to take any more math classes...yay!
Well, that's about it for now. I am tired, but life is kinda icky, but I think this is a necessary change to make life better. I hope you're all having fun! Call me if you're in town!
