I wrote fic. Short and rather melancholy.

You watch him, as you always do, from the corner of your eye. You don't dare look openly, directly, because then they would speculate, they would talk, they would gossip. You don't want that.
Things, you think, are fine the way they are.

He is always in the middle of a crowd, always surrounded by admirers and friends. He is always at the center. Always the King of Hearts.
You watch from a distance because there is no room for you at the inner circle.

He catches you one day: catches you watching, catches you longing, catches you thinking. Your eyes lock and it is a moment -- and then he smiles at you, waves you over gleefully.
But you just turn away and don't see the look on his face when you do.

You wonder sometimes, when you're lying there, staring up at the ceiling, his warm body curled beside yours, if he tolerates you for the sex; if he thinks you're easy. You're not. It's just that... it's him.
And you would do anything for him.

You watch him as he sleeps; it is cliche, but you don't really mind it. You wish for it to always be like this -- for him to be yours and yours alone, no other claims on his time and attention.
But then he wakes and you know it's over.
He smiles when he sees you, and it's like early morning sunshine -- bright and warming and a little sleepy. He threads his fingers in your hair and whispers something inanely flirtatious in your ear and you wonder if it isn't what he says to them.
But... that's okay if it is.
Things, you think, are fine the way they are.
