There's that aspect, but i love the BAMF bit of John as well. He's so unassuming, that you don't expect the claws to come out. Especially in regards to Sherlock and they proved that several times over in just those three episodes. Possessive is an understatement when it comes to these two about each other. *grin*
The scene in ep 3 at the end, oh dear gods. Moriarity is crazy man, but i still get vibes from him that he's playing bashit and that he's not really THAT insane. IDEK, my brain is wired for Saiyuki's Nii Jienyi who played cracked out pervy mad scientist for 10 years and then dropped the act once the larger parts of his decade long plans started to come into play.
So those actions in the pool just give me the same kind of resonance, even in that bit of screen time. Nothing was wasted with that scene, much like Nii's 'screen time' in the manga he's in (Kazuya Minekura's Saiyuki). Moriarity playing crazy to the hilt to make a point that Sherlock of course, actually HAS to acknowledge he just might care about our favorite doctor, while still keeping a few secrets of his own with the act. If it turns out this way? i may go into fangirl convulsions next year.
