Fandom

Your main fandom of the year?
Marveeeeel (mostly Avengers, though I read quite a lot of X-Men).

Your favorite tv show of the year?
Um I probably watched television at some point, oh, uh, The Walking Dead maybe?

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
lololol Marvel. I'd been into comics before but mostly Dark Horse Star Wars comics and a little bit of DC, and suddenly Avengers and Hawkeye and DeFraction kind of own my soul?

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I was super not into Doctor Who 7a. It wasn't any worse than RTD's run for me, but I expect so much more from Moffat, and after being offput by some of the underlying themes in series 6... yeah.

BUT! BUT!!! I am kind of madly in love with Clara and she is definitely for sure my companion and did I mention I love her and want to marry her and have her babies and like, I have really really high hopes for Doctor Who's future and yessss all the Clara.

Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
Ummmm... Clint I guess? Also Gawd Chris Evans what is your face I mean rly?

Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
Claraaaaaaaaaaaaaaa fjdklsfjdksljfdsklj Claraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Claraclaraclaraclaraclara nope no coherency here Claraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
I... a lot of my squee has been confined to like, fanworks, so I don't know how to answer this? OH! Oh, there was a lot of jumping around literally squealing with joy when it was confirmed Coulson lived and would be headlining the SHIELD tv show.

The most missed of your old fandoms?
Lol if I leave a fandom, it's for a reason, and I don't miss it. A lot of the awesome people I met in the Doctor Who fandom came over to Marvel anyway soooo...

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
I really want to write something for X-Men at some point idk.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
Omg ALL the HAWKGUY and CAPTAIN MARVEL and YOUNG AVENGERS and basically Marvel and also I really, really am super super excited for Clara and Doctor Who 7b and thiiiings yesss.

Fanfiction

(I'm picking and choosing the questions to try and avoid answering too many of the things I already said in my last post).

Leitmotif(s) of the year:
I really don't have one unless you count aaaaangst all the aaangsty angst angst.

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?
A lot less, but I also was working a lot more than I did last year, and they are significantly longer in average length than the things I wrote last year. Like, I wrote less than half as many fics as I wrote last year but my word count was more than double.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you never would have predicted in January 2012?
Lol Avengers wasn't even on my radar in January, so basically: all of it XD I still have no idea where all the Clint/Coulson feels came from, they just kind of blindsided me, one day it was this weird side pairing that showed up a lot in the Steve/Tony fics Kato was making me read AND THEN OMG ALL THE FEELS.

Your best story of this year:
I think i'll just keep following (the heartlines on your hand) is probably the most technically good of my pieces of writing.

What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.
In retrospect, I don't like a lot of my writing this year? But I loved writing and still enjoy Five Times Sinner and Five Lines and a Speech so.

Okay, NOW your most popular story.
Shapeshifting and Shenanigans, which, lol, I wrote in like a week and only had the first three chapters beta'd (by the beautiful and fantastic
lovelythings) and just. Lol I can't.

Story of yours most underappreciated by the universe, in your opinion:
Either Five Times Sinner or i'll just keep following. Five Times Sinner I would guess because it wasn't a fix-it at a time when that was mostly what people wanted to read, and it doesn't mesh with MCU comics canon, as I wasn't familiar with that when I wrote it. I think maybe I just have an irrational love for i'll just keep following and it's non-romantic romance, plus I posted it in one huge chunk instead of parts (keeping it on the front page for longer) idk. And i'll just keep following did get a decent amount of attention, just not really proportional to its length?

Story that could have been better?
I've said this elsewhere but I really hate how Dreaming came out. I loved it at the time and it's certainly the second-most read and most-commented on story I've written in years, but I just. I read it before I'd seen The Avengers (but had been spoiled for Phil's death) and I hadn't seen Thor and I hadn't seen Iron Man II for several years or ever seen Iron Man I and the characterization was entirely based on (a small number of) fanfics and the plot is weird and I was trying to shorten it so it jumps quite badly and it is SUPER disjointed and I'm going to stop now because you should have an idea of just how much I hate how this turned out, especially compared to the hopes I had for it.

(And people still ask fuckyeahclintcoulson for fic finding of it like every other month and it makes me want to scream and uuuugh I don't believe in rage deleting fic BUT I WANT TO DELETE THIS ONE)

Most fun story to write:
If you've been friends with me for a while you'll know that I HATE writing porn kind of a lot, so you'll be surprised to hear that it totally was i'll just keep following? It was just really fun and easy to write, though the editing was pretty brutal (can I mention again that
lovelythings is kind of a jewel) and I still like how it turned out and I just really like it. I also really, really enjoyed writing Five Lines and a Speech, which, when I finally got a grip on how I wanted to approach MCU Clint/Steve, was so easy and fun and just a total joy to write. Steeebe.

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Ummm... well I mean can ever dissever my soul was actually a less dark follow-up to Come Little Children and also I would be really surprised if anyone thought there was much that was "too wrong" for me at this point? Dreaming is kind of wrong, I guess, but also I hate that so we're ignoring it. Actually most of my fics were pretty tame this year, whaddya know?

Sexiest story?
i'll just keep following because that was kind of the only porn I wrote this year?

Saddest story?
Five Times Sinner. Oh Clint.

Sweetest story?
Sweet! I mean lol it's all there in the title. Who wouldn't want to read Clint pelting Phil with Snoballs when he was having a bad day? (Actually, my contributions to
coffeesuperhero's Ororoverse are probably sweeter, but I'm not sure they count?)

Hardest story to write:
I really, really struggled with Dreaming, which from now on we will refer to as The-Story-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named.

Easiest story to write?
Shapeshifting and Shenaningans, though it was also the most work because of the sheer length. I rarely got stuck with it, it was just a lot of words to slog through in a very, very short period of time.

Biggest surprise:
I think Midas' Touch? I really did not ever intend to write/ship Bruce/Tony and then SJ made me.

Most unintentionally revealing story:
I actually deliberately steered away from writing too much Steve for this reason, so none of them are too crazy.

Story that shifted your own perception of the characters:
Both Five Times Killer and i'll just keep following pretty significantly shifted my views on MCU Clint and Phil's characterization? Like Five Times Killer is where I really developed a solid handle on writing Clint, and while you can't see it directly in the text, there's a lot of story that happens to Phil behind the scenes in i'll just keep following that changed my characterization of him.

Where did you publish/archive your stories?
Everything's on AO3. At the beginning of the year I was also posting on LJ and DW but then I stopped caring and so yeah.

Story you haven't yet written, but intend to:
So I've got about 1.5k of 616 Clint/Coulson fic and their characterization is pretty radically different from how I write them in MCU but like... I really love the pairing in 616 kind of a lot more than MCU? Which is saying a lot. I just, I really like the dynamic I'm getting out of them in 616 better and I just have a lot of feels, to the point where I'm having some trouble continuing writing because I just, my feels go everywhere and I'm kind of on the point of a feelsplosion and my level of investment in them right now is honestly unhealthy so uh.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I pushed myself a lot to write longer stories, because I feel like MCU is a canon that can support lengthy fanworks much better than Doctor Who (for more Opinions, comment and ask I guess, this was turning into an essay). I went from an average fic wordcount of ~1k words up to ~3k words up to probably close to 5k words. I wrote three stories over 10k this year alone. IT WAS SO AWESOME :D

Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?
I'd like to get my AO3 wordcount up to 300k this year? I'm also thinking about posting one of my oldest but most beloved stories quietly to AO3 because it's 40k words and I want my AO3 wordcount to be a little closer to the actual number of words I've written over the years, idk? And the fic isn't that good but I'm not ashamed of it either, WHICH IS MORE THAN I CAN SAY FOR A CERTAIN MORE RECENTLY-WRITTEN FIC ugh ugh ugh okay I'll stop now.
