Half a page before the end I was preparing a comment starting with either "Sherlock is the worst psychotherapist in the world!" or "Sherlock attacks relationships with logic, this is not to be missed", but then you did that impossibly, hopelessly romantic thing at the end, and, in the immortal words of Tumblr, I can't even.

For some reason I am in love with this quote.

I know all about perception filters though. Many of my kids have never been able to hear what people actually say to them. It gets all twisted up in weird ways. Didn't think of it affecting John that badly. But Sherlock's words and actions can be very confusing, not to mention that reputation for manipulation, so I give John all my understanding. The kitchen-door slamming thing, for instance.
But in that last scene it's pretty clear Sherlock wants John to stay. Motives could still be up in the air, I suppose.
Loved John chasing after Sherlock, seducing him - wonderful! :D

Curious you say that, because at no point does the door get slammed. Sherlock shuts the door when John is adverse to physical contact and avoiding eye contact.

You know, I'm so used to the fics where Sherlock interprets the relationship completely wrong and fucks it all up, it's interesting to see John doing it. ;)

SO TRUE!!

That's exactly what I wanted to do here. Because when it's Sherlock getting it wrong, we always trust John to still be true and loyal and honest. But if it's John getting it wrong, we can't be sure it's entirely John getting it wrong, because Sherlock isn't quite as trustworthy. Much more up in the air that way.
