Grace gaped at him. Not at his suggestion, but at the vivid expression on his face. It was like watching the wax melt away to reveal a human face behind it.
Elrond’s smile faltered at her expression, his eyebrows crinkling together in confusion under her stare. Grace gaped all the more, remembering herself at the last moment.
“Sorry. Oh, no, I’m so sorry,” she said, forcing her gaze away. “It’s just - I thought…” She gestured towards her face before catching herself. “Never mind,” she said, embarrassed, afraid she had insulted him. Quickly, she turned and started walking in the direction he had indicated.
Elrond caught up to her easily, his long strides finding hers no challange. When he was beside her, he checked himself and matched her steps. “Half what else?”
“Half man.” He glanced at her, a smile playing on his lips. “Your race.” They reached the end hall, and Elrond directed them towards a large oak door.
“That happens?” Grace stared up at Elrond as he opened the door and motioned her through. They were at the ground level now, grass on either side of the path they followed.
Elrond directed them towards the left. “On occasion,” he said, bowing low under an overhanging branch and stopping a few feet afterwards. “These are my gardens,” he said, splaying his hand towards a field littered with colour. “Shall we walk?”
